SLPL 2013 Cancelled
Quote:
Sri Lanka Cricket has cancelled the Sri Lanka Premier League for 2013, after all eight franchises failed to pay the tournament fee and the bank guarantees for player payments, an official release confirmed. The franchises had breached two payment deadlines and forced the postponement of the player draft, and will now have their contracts terminated by SLC. The tournament was due to take place between August 10 and September 7.
"We want to maintain the integrity of the board and the integrity of the tournament, so we had to take a stand," SLPL director Ajit Jayasekara said. "We can't have a situation where the franchises say, 'We will pay if the other franchises pay'.

Why do we need to cancel BPL simply cuz they couldnt oganize their SLPL ?
Yes, there are hiccups and bumps, things are not all that rosy.
We need to overcome those shortcomings but the show must go on.
Shiyal er dhare murgi rakhte dile ei obosthai hobe.
If I'm not mistaken, most SLPL franchisee owners are Indian companies.
With their IPL in all sorts of murky waters, they are making sure that none of the other neighboring PL's can bloom or shine.
Right the very next day of Sreesanth's arrest, India media goes after BPL, more preciously the two times champions DG.
Now SLPL is called off.
BPL is postponed till the end of world cup and in all reality, isnt happening either cuz IPL is slated after world cup and May-June isnt the best time for cricket in Bangladesh.
What happens to IPL case ?
The Ambanis and SRKs walk free while only Shihab Chowdhurys face the wrath.

SLPL had this sustainability issue from the start. This was bound to happen when too many Indian money involved. Despite a lot of payment irregularities, I think locally sourced BPL least likely to face same fate as SLPL.

The idea behind these domestic t20 leagues is to generate profit, both by the board and the franchises. It won't survive if it fails to do so, as simple as that. I don't know how BCCI or India comes in the picture. Those companies are not owned by BCCI, and it'd funny to think that these companies would harm themselves to make sure the PL's don't become successful. And SLPL or BPL or any PL was never a competition for IPL, I don't know where that idea came from, since it's a domestic league targeted for local viewers.
This new fashion of blaming BCCI for everything that is wrong with cricket is getting really boring.

Yes! why didn't i think of our failures in this way before! lets all blame the Indians because without them we would never have bailed out on player payments or got involved in match fixing
