Two members with same username?
May be its an old already discussed issue. Then please close this thread. I just realized that two members can have two separate accounts but can use same user name. Looks like the system will recognize "Bashar" , "bashar", and "baShar" as three separate user name.
For example, all along I thought, Sauron (of North of Mexico, Registered: 26-4-2005) and shaoun (of new york city, Registered: 5-9-2004) is same user. Suddenly I realized by their registered date that they are two different people. And this is just one example out of many may be. There may be some more in future. Its not fair to the individuals who have the same name (and without realizing that, they may have registered it at different point) as well as the rest of the members trying to figure it out if the individual have dual personality or not.
Is there any way to prevent it by checking the user name (by non-case sensitive string search or something like that) and blocking it (the same name) to any new members who are about to register?
Well I know nothing is free, just a thought.

Ops ! Its my fault. What I was thinking? The future menu of Thanks-giving dinner ?
Therefore it looks like even though its still confusing, but my point is pretty much invalidated by chinaman. Therefore please remove this thread if you wish.
... wait a minute, should I try to create a new account with "Chinaman" before I concede defeat?

Good! I don't wanna get mixed up with anyone, I'm glad my name is different. I've mixed up a few characters too. Especially at the beginning.

Can the real purush please stand up
Looks like we have two members with the same name: kalpurush and Kaal-Purush. Who is the real Purush? Or are they same or twin brothers?
After exponential growth of this website, looks new members are having hard time finding unique names and kind of re-using already used names with little modifications which creates confusion who is who.
I was just looking for memebers names starts alphabet 'a' only. And look what we found?
- abdin, abedin23, AbedinC
- Abd & Abid
- adam, adam voisey & adamnsu
- adnan & adnan_zaman
- ahmed & Ahmed_B
- Alvi & Alvy
- amama & aman
- Anan & Ananta
- amarbangla, amarbangla@msn.com & amar_bangla
- amim & amin
- amit, amits & amit_is_back
- ami_bd , ami_Bekub & ami_eka
Most likely some of them are same person, some of them are may be brothers and sisters, and some of them may be 'ager jonmer Mashtuto Bhai'.
But what can we so to simplify the issue of confusion?
Here are few suggestion:
- The members can be proactive and contact admin to delete multiple users names created by same member.
- Can add another field. So member user id can be similar, member forum name should be distinct
- Add more restriction in member creation logic so that new member cannot create already used very similar names
- Exsiting members can ask suggestion ( Like VladMamu did) in this forum for good, unique names. And then they can request admin to change the name.
What do you guys think? Its a bad Idea? I knew that.
I think there was a thread addressing this issue, but couldn't find it any more. Therefore I created a new thread again.

During my undergraduate time I really got in trouble with my boss for getting mixed up with names.
I used to work part time in a pub while I was studying. I had boss who was a man of less words. One-day morning he came into the pub and just said “coffee”. I thought he was ordering me to make him a cup of coffee. So I went to kitchen and asked the Kenyan guy, who was working in the kitchen, to make a cup of coffee and I took the coffee to the boss.
The coffee was left on the table and he wasn’t drinking for 15/20 minutes. Then he shouted and called me again, “ where is coffee?”
I replied, “ there, on the table”
He impatiently screamed and shouted again, “ not this coffee”
I said, "what coffee then? Turkish coffee or Irish coffee?"
Then he really got angry and shouted, “ I want Kenyan coffee”
Apparently, the Kenyan guy who was working in the kitchen, had name “coffee”.

What about similar avatars?
Similar names can be sorted out somehow, but it's difficult to control similar avatars. For an example, many of us are looking for avatars with tigers and at the same time avatars are limited in numbers at different sites. So, there are possibilities that avatars can be repeated. Can it be checked and denied if it is a duplicate one?
