Be least worried Miraz bhai...we'll take care of that
Image size: I'm not sure why that's happening...will look into it and post the solution here if I find the solution.

Excellent piece
Well thought out and quite in-depth. One minor quibble: It's not merely the ICC and it's FTP that has condemned us to the schedule we had last year. Lack of activity on our board's part to sell our team or negotiate with other boards (if Zim could go to SA, why couldn't we have a tri-series in Pakistan with Windies?), and a tendency to marginalize BD Cricket (let by a certain neighboring country's cricket board) have contributed profusely to the preponderance of matches against Zim, Ken and Scotland in 2007.

Miraz Bhai, in Test Match Bowling section Mohammad Rafique's match figure against Australia should be 9/160. You've mistyped it 9/100, I think.

Khondaker Mirazur Rahman
The author looks back at the year that was for Bangladesh cricket. This first part of a two part series focuses on the international arena.

Very interesting article... I think Bangladesh had a good year (it would have been amazing if Rafique and co. had taken three more wickets in Fatullah) with promising talents arising.
Too bad such a long absence from test cricket!

Ditto.
Make sure Hablu bhai'rey pochaben next article'a. Be it domestic or international. Shey na parey fielding, na parey bowling, na parey batting (Hook-pull), na parey running between the wickets, na parey captaining a team. Luckily in-team bickering'er jonno he got the chance and now enjoying the winningest captain of BD.

Tigers_eye bhai, apnar chokhe mone hoi ektu chani pora shuru hochche, temon kichuna boyesh hochcho to tai
Amader Hablu miyar record dekhen. Sob win to tar captaincy tei. Captaincy change korle aabar sei purono juge jete hobe.Aar se batting, fielding sobkichutei choukosh (see records for 2006)
On a serious note, I think Habibul Bashar is the only player to guide the team right at the moment. Its way too early for SN to captain BD side which wobbles more than often. We need a performing senior player to lead the team. Habibul Bashar and Rafiq are the only player of that kind. I think its easy to select captin between them.
About fielding check the following stats.
Long term
Highest dismissal by a Bangladeshi player (non - wicketkeeper) in Tests and ODI
Habibul Bashar 39 (Test 19 + ODI 20)
Aftab Ahmed 37 (Test 3 + ODI 34)
Mohammad Rafiq 28 (Test 6 + ODI 22)
Mohammad Ashraful 24 (Test 10 + ODI 14)
------------------------------------------------
Short term
Highest dismissal by a Bangladeshi player in ODI (For 2006 calender year)
Mohammad Ashraful 9
Habibul Bashar 8
Aftab Ahmed 8
--------------------
--------------------
-------------------
Shahriar Nafees 3
BTW, Habibul Bashar averages 40.25 in tests in 2006 and 30.73 in ODIs.
In 2006 SN played more ODI than Habibul Bashar and both of them are slip fielder.
I am also a crictic of Habibul's captaincy.
Now, its very easy to criticise our beloved Hablu Mia, but he is the best ever we got as a Captain. He is a bit cautious and that's because of our previous success record in International Match. Now a days, he is making more positive decisions in Captaincy. In my honest opinion, Habibul Bashar should be retained as Captain until he retires fro International cricket.

Its really great to see the names of Shahriar Nafees, Mashrafee Mortaza and Abdur Razzak standing amongst the greats of current world cricket.
Few paragraphs from the cricinfo review of 2006.
Quote:
Shahriar Nafees is one of six batsmen to amass over 1000 runs in 2006. He scored 1033 at 41.32, with three hundreds and four fifties, to become the first Bangladesh batsman to score 1000 runs in a calendar year.
|
Quote:
Guess who's taken the most ODI wickets this year? Not Murali, not Ntini, not even Pollock but Mashrafe Mortaza. He had 49 wickets at 20.46 in 2006 and also set a new Bangladesh record for best-innings figures when he took 6 for 26 against Kenya. Abdur Razzak is third with 45 wickets and at 17.95 each. Among the other bowlers only Nathan Bracken and Brett Lee have taken more than 40 wickets in 2006.
|
Quote:
Australia were 2006's most successful one-day team winning 20 of their 29 ODIs and losing just eight. Hidden away in those stats is their Champions Trophy victory, a feat that had eluded them on the past four occasions. Bangladesh has the second highest win-percentage of the year with 18 victories from 28 matches - most of those wins coming against Zimbabwe, Kenya and Scotland but including a memorable victory against Sri Lanka at home.

and a photograph with the caption
Mashrafe Mortaza surprised us all by topping the wicket tables for 2006
