2nd Test Squads
Its less than 20 hours before the second test starts. WI has announced the squad long time ago. Even though not the 11 squad, but we know that banks has been called in. How about bangladesh? why we don't have any news of the squad yet? Does anyone knows anything? When fast bowler oriented WI calls for spinner, I think we should definately increase our number of spinners (i.e: get rana in). If someone get any news of the squad, official or unofficial, please post it here.

Well I hope prothom Alo is right. Let Faisal play a few more ODIs before he is given opportunities to play in tests again. Rana and Rafique working in Tandem will give us an edge. Plus Tareque Aziz deserves another chance on a pacer-friendly wicket. He is aggressive and is not afraid to buy his wickets. Only our fielders need to back him up and take those catches. If prothom Alo is right then the following is indeed the best team we could have gone into the second test with given the circumstances.
1. Hannan Sarkar (he showed in Australia that he can play ob nice fast bouncy tracks, he deserves one last chance)
2. Javed Omar (he will do his best to stick it out, guaranteed!)
3. Habibul Bashar (doesn't care for pace and bounce, if anything he likes pace and soe proper bounce so he can pull and hook easily. If anything he got undone by the lack of bounce in the first test!)
4. Rajin Saleh (rock solid!)
5. Ashraful
6. Mushfique
7. Pilot
8. Rana
9. Rafique
10. Tapash
11. Tareque
I quite like this team

Bypassed all the valuable comments in the rana vs mushfiq vs faisal thread, so this may be old hat. But it seems that rana will have less impact on the sabina park pitch - where he could have played a role is in the first test. eventually our selectors will learn to pick a team based on the needs, not because of entitlement or formula. They pay lip service to this but don't really do it.
I would definitely keep the 3 pacers in ( a rare "yes" to Babu as well even though his batting means he really ought to come in at 11!). Both Rana and Faisal are going to be utilty players with perhaps little impact on the game, and with both deserving a chance to play it doesn't matter a great deal which one is selected.

I wonder, why then, the West Indies picked Banks for the 2nd test. Sabina Park pitch may just be responsive to spin also. Since Rana's record is reasonably well in both batting and spinning the ball, this may work out.

Disturbing
Ittefaq shows the list of 12 players, they have Kapali in the list, not Rana.
I hope they are dead wrong.

Actually, Ittefaq's list also has Lawson and fidel, who have been dropped. It must be wrong/outdated.

Ittefaq is wrong, they did not even sent a reporter with BD team, unlike prothom alo. So we can ignore Ittefaq, with eyes close they write reports with wrong information, spelling mistakes, grammatical mistakes, just poor old sports reports...
Rana is in, in place of Faisal. Go Rana!

WI picked Banks becoz they think BD batters are not good players of spin. Parttimers like Gayle and Sarwan did well in the first test so they are going for a specialist spinner now! Lets hope our batsmen make them fool again!!

i agree with rafiq on this...
manzur rana or faisal hussain - either one will do...
rana could be used more effectively as a bowler than rajin or ashraf when the pacers need a break... on the contrary, faisal should be given another shot at proving his talent...
hence... it is a toss up... the result of which should not make much of a difference...

picking up was not that surpprising, but letus face it it is rather immatured, if not wrong to say that he has good record in abtting and bowling.. in fact he has not roved or disproved anything..getting 30 as number seven is different thing.. but his half century in ODI shows that he can well be atop order batsman.. so he is still a unknown quantity..let us hope selectors have faith and patience in him...
saying that..look how Hannan showing faith to selector's patience!!!
funnY thing is we really do not know whether he is in good form or not.. as he is getting out too early.. Ian chappell once said that getting early duck does not mean anything as far as form is concerned.. his comment was about ponting who had three consecutive duck..only to follow up with 190 plus (against pakistani attack)... problem is hannan is not ponting.
another caveats: the pitches of darwin and cairns was not typically bouncy pitch of down under...
