Is the earth flat?
Now, many people would argue that the earth is spherical (an oblate spheroid, to be more precise). In fact some people would argue, that this famous picture, Earthrise, taken by astronaut William Anders from lunar orbit in Apollo 8, confirms it.
But, of course, if you listen to BD-Shardul and Dawah in the other poll, you might well believe that all the moon missions were faked, and thus so was this picture, showing a spherical earth. So I thought I might just run a poll to see how many of you believed in a flat earth too.
for the irony-impaired.

I think Shaad has a point here - the picture looks like a golf ball painted with earth like colors and dipped in a tar pool next to landscape probably found somewhere in Utah. However, the contour separating land from the pool appears a tad bit too fine. Perhaps the detail is lost in the resolution - which makes me then think - maybe the picture was taken from a mountain top, and the ball really isn't a golf ball but a giant sphere that is unevenly balanced.

A thread opened to bash the sentiment of some other people. Failing to refute the logic presented by David Milne, they took the attack on some BC members.
Well, look at the poll options. The options are set as if we logic from the religion was presented to prove that the journey to moon is fake.
irony impaired? It is more painful for me watch that the extremely heavy load of worldly knowledege is flattening people's common sense.

Some (Aristotle?) thinks earth is as flat as a pancake, some (my friend Bilal) thinks its triangular like an orange...truth must be somewhere in between.

Some of us tend to work during the day and pretty late into the evening; we post on BC when we have the luxury to do so. I think, BD-Shardul, you will now be satisfied with my refutation of the so-called "logic" of David Milne.
And what attack are you talking about? It seemed quite reasonable to assume from your "A Conspiracy" thread that both you and Dawah considered the moon landing to be faked. Making fun of that is now "bash[ing your] sentiment[s]." Hai-re, tomra ki etoi sentimental?

Oh, goodness. Did you even read the options? The poll options say nothing about the moon, focusing instead on reasons why someone might believe that the earth was flat. For what it's worth, I think you can find many examples of theists using their holy books to argue that the world was flat (see, for instance, Lactantius, St.John Chrysostom, St. Athanasius, Diodorus of Tarsus, and Cosmas Indicopleustes, and expounders of this view in the early Christian church). Many early Muslim scholars, on the other hand, were firm proponents of a spherical earth, and used that to calculate the distance and direction from any given point on the earth to Mecca for prayers. That's not to say that there weren't any who believed in a flat earth instead.

You never know, tomorrow you might wake up and read that the earth is flat and the sun revolves around the earth.
A flat planet infested with people in some distant galaxy might be a good sci fi movie though.

May I suggest a director for the movie? How about Galileo? Copernicus will off course star as the lead hero. Movie title? GEOCENTRIC would do.

Oops these are four Elephants, who are standing on the flat surface of the turtle's shell. Anyway its complicated. It does not explain where the turtle is standing though.
