An IPL franchise for Bangladesh
Hi everyone
I am opening this thread to gauge everyone's opinion of the IPL and to see if one day, if we would like an IPL team for Bangladesh. A franchise for us could help our players play in the league and get some experience against quality opposition, as well from the foreign players that the franchise can get.
This idea might be crazy, but it is possible. A franchise could be bought in the future by the big Corporations in Bangladesh and would bring healthy revenue, a good source of entertainment and pride for our country that deserves to play more cricket.
I think this is the only way for our players to get a chance in the IPL, as i do not think Indian teams will bother to auction our national players.
Besides our players would be cheaper for the franchise and bring more firepower at a lower cost.
I think it is viable, and if the first season of IPL is successful, the BCB should get into talks with companies in Bangladesh for a team.

Thats a good idea but the IPL franchises are expensive. I wouldnt think any one Group in Bangladesh would venture into it with so much at stake. However, you never know. Personally I think its a great opportunity to market yourself overseas if a company is looking to break itself into the huge Indian Market.
Maybe a couple of our pharmaceautical companies ought to try and pool and their resources and see if they can get a franchise. This sector would have a good market for export in India. IPL is the perfect place to market yourself.

Not a bad idea, but I doubt whether the Bangladeshi investors will be up for it !

I dont think we should be negative about this. I mean as layperson mentioned its a great marketing tool. Bangladesh is one of the fastest growing economies in Asia.
There needs to be conviction and will to do something like this and thats the hardest part.
The reason why our big neighbor is successful because they believe in what they are doing. Where we get scared and afraid to do something big.
Though Grameen Phone is not a wholly owned Bangladeshi company, it had close 137 million dollars US in net income for the year 2006. They dont have to be the only company, but i am sure there will be other investors interested in buying a team, regardless if they are domestic or foreign.

according to the IPL rules, a team can take only 8 international players and 4 of them are allowed to play in a match.
so Bangladeshi team has to take at least 7 local players. considering the pathetic performance from the Bangladeshi national players, i dont think BCCI would ever want to destroy the attraction of the tournament by taking such an weak team nor any company/millionaire would ever want to throw such a big amount of their money to the drain.
the Bangladesh national team players are so bad that they dint want to take even a single player (though took Razzak in the second auction), why should they take the whole team?
Indian teams are in an advantages position in a sense that even if you dont have quality player in your region, you can take from other states (i think one team has to take only 4 players from their own region).
so i dont think its gonna happen in near future.

i dont think india would ever let us in the competition, bcci have a very low reputation of us anyway, but they would let in pak, srl and then us. All very very unlikely, but it would be cool if bd had our own team with internationals.

Two big corporations like maybe...Grameen Phone and Beximco, can buy a team together, they can easily afford to, money is not the problem because if you think about it a Dhaka team shouldnt cost more than $50m and two big corps can easily afford that, the problem is whether the Indians will agree to let an outside team participate in the tournament, I think if the BCB pushes in this matter and the Dhakaiya public show enthusiasm even BCCi will agree and no it doesnt have to be called BPL coz in NBA they have Canadian teams dont they?

garbage cricket will only ruin us further...there is no need for bangladesh to have anything to do with 20-20 cricket.

Its 20 -20 it wont help us...
rather have good international batsmen play for our clubs in premier cricket....that would really boost our league and our players can learn from them....
we don need to learn how to play 20 -20...cuz thats all we play everyday...:-)

Why would foreign player come and play in our leagues when they can make more money elsewhere?
