Tikolo warns Kenya of bleak future

Former Kenyan captain Steve Tikolo has warned that the future of the sport is bleak following the latest controversy involving the Kenya Cricket Association (KCA) and players.
The star batsman, who resigned the captaincy after the Champions Trophy in England early this month, is one of the nine senior players who have been dropped from the national team in the wake of the latest row over contracts.
Tikolo said the youthful side which has been selected to play Namibia in the ICC Intercontinental Cup match starting here on Friday would struggle to qualify for the semi-finals in the United Arab Emirates in November.
Only four members of the senior team have been included in the side.
Left-arm batsman Hitesh Modi will lead the largely inexperienced team against the Namibians who arrived in Nairobi on Thursday.
“They face a difficult task,” Tikolo said. Having beaten Uganda, the third African country in the qualifiers by an innings and four runs last July, the team need to get 11.5 points against Namibia to qualify.

I was surprised to see kenya's result in the match against Namibia and after a little digging found out about the protests and the strikes. These players have every right to go on strike. What te Kenyan board has done to them is shameful. These players brought Kenya a lot of success despite the lack of support from the country and their board and yet, they are owed a huge sum of money for their contracts and bonuses. If the Kenyanboard does not wise up and bring back their main players, kenya will soon be relegated (performance wise) to the ranks of USA ans UAE. Even teams like Ireland and Scotland will mop the floor with the current Kenyan (more like Kenya ASIAN) side.

I would not write off Namibia (in the icc intercontinenal level) but I think Kenya could have won this match if they had their full line up.

But this goes to show that Kenyas back up players would not support Kenyas introduction into test status.

However, Kenya has survived the crisis against Namibia. Ravindu Shah hit an unbeaten 187 which saved them from humiliation. The three-day match was drawn and Kenya moved to semifinals with 45.5 points, with Uganda having 41 points. Kenya will face Scotland in their semifinal match of ICC Continental Cup in Sharjah.
