Dhrubo: Wrong. His initial inclusion in the team was as a specialist bowler, who could bat a bit. He got lost in translation...and started being considered as a specialist batsman.

Murad bhai: Thanks for the support. In fact, the second innings wicket that Ash got...it broke that long 6th or 7th wicket partnership (i forget which one). That partnership lasted for some 40+ runs, and could have easily led this test to a draw. Sakib needed a break from bowling those 20+ overs in a row. I thought Ash's change should have been after the 15th over from Sakib...and rightly so. He was put into the attack, and he gifted the team with a breakthrough. What more do you want from him?

But he is now a specialist batsmen. If he was trained as a bowler then he could have become a good bowler, but as he got older he emphasized more on batting. I think we all know that ashraful will say his main role in the national team is being a batsmen not a bowler.

Occasionally a good ball can get any batsman out. I am not concerned about that. Just bat responsibly and use the experience he has. His fellow players who don't have the luxury of playing 49 tests can learn something (responsible battting). Right now they are learning all the bad stuff from him.

If he is not in the team, he can do whatever he wants. That is not any of my concern.

more over in the next test inshallah we will have full bowling attack so I hope we would not have to rely on his bowling.

I agree with both of you. Ash has been superb as a bowler. In the second innings, Shakib should have brought him earlier.

Dhrubo: He may not have asked for the 'batsman' hat. He was probably made to wear that hat. But good argument there...you almost got me.

Mijan bhai: Nothing wrong with what you're saying. But probably what we may have figured out by now is, he's NOT a specialist batsman material. If a batsman is failing like that, then don't try to depend on him. But if you wish, ask for a good bowling spell from him...for which he was originally brought into the side.

But, if he is in the team as a specialist bowler, then breaking a partnership or two won't do. His job description will change. He will have to bowl 20+ overs per innings. I am not sure if we would like to see that. It will be unfair to specialist bowlers in the squad. This is the very reason why I had no problem with Riayd's batting show. He batted at no.8. Anything you get from that position in terms of runs is a bonus. His main job was to take wkts and he did. If Ash stays in the team he stays as a batsman, and I judge him with runs, not ocassional wkts, even though they were crucial breakthroughs. It will be awsome if Ash returns among runs and doubly awsome if he continues to show this trend of breaking partnerships. But, that is a secondary job description.

Beamer: Yes, his job description will change. And so will the number of overs that he gets to bowl.

8 years ago what was done and then not continued, can not be revitalized in stroke of time, just so that one can accomodate a person and deny another genuine player. You play with one short still. 10 vs 11 is still a mismatch. Enam or Mehrab who have bowled more than Ash are better option as well even as an alrounder.

Well said but the sad part is, he is the best batsman in the team. At least he knows that and so is everyone. He should be replaced by Mehrab jnr, a better batsman, better bowler.

Yeah, but I think shakib will try him for a few overs. I have lost hope on ashraful as a batsmen. Its all in his attitude as some people say, he might even be inconsistent as a bowler

Maybe, but today after 8 years he is still described as a batsman, no one really knows or cares if he was forced to take the role of a batsmen or not. I think his talent is wasted, no hope for him unless he works extra hard on his batting (I think its a bit too late to change himself into a specialist bowler)

I want to see him contributing regularly; either as a batsman or as a bowler. I don't mind him becoming a bowling all rounder. His batting statistics is similar to a bowling all-rounder. He needs to concentrate in bowling more. We must not forget that in his early age he has been a bowling all-rounder.

I want Mehrab as a replacement for Mash, not Ash.

Question is: How many teens will commit suicide if Ash gets replaced?

Then he need to do two things:

1) Bowl more often and get wickets more often to qualify as a viable bowler-all rounder.

2) Bat lower in the batting order so that he no longer considered as a dead wood in the batting order.

He cannot have both ways. If some one occupy in the top order, he must and I repeat he must need to to produce runs in a consistent basis.

So, Ash has now become a valuable a bowler since he has taken two wickets with his part time bowling !

So, say Shahadat scores a fifty in the next match - will we have to keep picking him as a valuable late order batsman in matches after matches regardless how much his bowling sucks ?!

Pretty much the gist of this prevalent argument! Funny ha..Why leave out Rakibul? We keep him for his fielding for that run out!

Looks like that is the case here. And when/if Ash fails both with the bat as well as with the ball, then some people will come up with the idea why he should be our starting wicket keeper.

Watch out Rahim, your job is on the line.

Did you guys not see the way he bowled? He bowled tight, and if he was lucky, he would've ended the WI chase (had that catch not been dropped). I want to see him bowl more in Test 2. We need to give him the opportunity to find his way back...the real reason why he was selected in the first place. However, he should be brought down to 5-down. That will give him a real opportunity to find his rhythm back. Until he gets it back, leave him in the team...and keep supporting him. He needs support more than these rubbish talk.

To me, Ash is always in the team as long as he's not the captain. You don't have a person performing all the time. Ash gets to stay. Thankless fans - out.
Kabir,
Bravo!! You are one of my favourite members.

Do I hate the way these fans spew hatred on Ash, what has he done so badly? He has given his young life to Bd cricket, was made to endure mental anguish as a child playing for BD and has been loyal to Bangladesh for years, came up through the ranks the hard way. How many of your young players have done the thankless job of being a ballboy for some time, before being given a chance. he should have not accepted captaincy until he was about 27 yrr old. Ash is going nowhere, He is the most exciting player, even though he is failing wth the bat, he is still a good cricketer, You thankless fans were asking for his head since the beginning of the year, you got your wish, he was removed from captaincy, now, you are all pressuring BCB to drop him.

Ash bowled better than Mash and Rajib in Tests this year. (2 Tests we've played so far)

I will throw him to the wolves at no.3 tomorrow. Why are we hiding him at no.5? If anything, Rakibul who is batting at no.4 and low on confidence, should come after him at no.5. If no.3 is a NO, then for sure at no.4. Let him show us what he got. Let him show us if he is willing to buckle down for the team. If not, he is done after this series. We no longer need him as much as he thinks we do. Our other batters are showing signs of maturity, or at least trying to play by the script.

Murad, comparing stats of part time and full time bowlers is very much like comparing apples with oranges.

I believe Michael Clarke took a crucial wkt today, which he does quite often, including his debut series vs India. Now, how many here think he is the team for that reason? If you raise your hand, then end of argument.

When Ash doesn't score with the bat: People criticize him
When Ash bowles well and gets wicket: People still criticize and bash him for not doing anyting with the bat. Never seen anyone appreciating his bowling.

But when it comes to Mash or other players, its quite opposite. "Oh well.. atleast he's contributed with bat when he failed with the ball. He contributed with the ball when he failed with the bat" I saw so many people saying this for some other players.

This is the condition in BC.

Ash will be bashed no matter what he does. It doesn't matter even if he scores a century or two.
