ZIM is not that bad even with the current bunch. They can definitely come back. We should be aware of that and never dare to take them lightly in this series after today's comfortable win. Zim has a very good batting line-up which did not click today.

A disciplined bowling performance restricted Zimbabwe to a below-par 207 before Mohammad Ashraful led the chase with a breezy ton to help Bangladesh clinch a facile win in the first ODI in Bulawayo. Mark Vermeulen hit a fluent 92 on his comeback after five years but didn't find much support from his team-mates. On an easy-paced track, Bangladesh didn't have any problems against the weak Zimbabwean attack.

zimfan, on the bright side, this might make your management bring back some of the players they benched. Besides, I suspect your team was a little rusty coming into this match, and the next ODI will be more evenly fought.

This was an excellent performance by Bangladesh. The way Ashraful played today, it was amazing! He placed, hitted, and timed his strokes to perfection! I would like to Congratulate Shakib for leading the side to a win, and Ashraful for a gem of an innings! Now today we showed something that we can do without Shakib, he needed the rest and he got one, didn't have to bat at all today. It was all Ashraful, hopefully next ODI in Teusday, August.11,2009 Shakib might score one. Well when Allah is in our side, there is no stopping! CHEERS AND BEST OF WISHES FOR BANGLADESH, SHAKIB, AND ASHRAFUL IN THE FUTURE!!! Inshallah we'll meet again 48 hours later. Alhamdullilah Bangladesh won! Allah Hafiz

GO TIGERS GO!

Q: did the captaincy lift burden... something in that line.

Ans: ab-jab, yes, I was the captain for two years. I did not perform, now I am not the captain, I have to perform to stay in the team. Yea I am relaxed.

Just the last sentence would have been fine.

i agree with you, although today it was high strike rate it did not come with many risks. they judged the pitch well. on another pitch they may need to play differently. but since the WI tour there has been better maturity in batting compared to yester years.

a comprehensive win! a professional performance indeed as promised by the skipper. The Zimbabwe team is a lot better than they performed today. I am not sure if I agree with their strategy of playing 8 batsmen and barely 5 front-line bowlers. It is rather negative and betrays a lack of confidence if anything.

As for our boys the challenge will be to sustain this level of professionalism all the way through the series.

The runs and outs in 143 matches are against him. But against weak opposition, with a few not out 100's he could go up a lot. Today he added approx. 0.7 just from one niot out innings'.

In fact, the answer itself carries a contradiction:

Yes, I am more relaxed as I am no longer the captain.

However, I have to perform to stay in the side.

That is also pressure - a good type of pressure !
