As someone who is something of an expert as well as enthusiast on national anthems, it pisses me off when a channel doesnt show the anthems. Granted, the effect in cricket is less than in football or rugby, but there is nothing like listening to our anthem before a match.
And Amar Shonar Bangla is definitely not an anthem as pumped up as La Marseillaise or Istiklal Marsi (evident by the relatively passive way the audience sung it during some of our matches in the WC) and as hinted by BANFAN, nevertheless i am sure the words and melody stirs our (and the players) inner soul and spirirt in a way that a faster , aggresive song could not.

Totally agree. I love my country with all my heart but our national anthem makes me sleepy. Chaal chaal is much more fitting. |
