I am confused, I thought Mushfiq was our keeper?

While he did play some lovely shots of the front foot today (courtesy of a belter of pitch and slow medium Zim pacers) but I'm not still sure whether he has rectified the problem. His tendency to play almost 99% of his shots from the front foot could be found wanting against quality fast bowlers. I would still wait and see what he does against stronger teams……

But I do agree with you, I do see some improvement in his batting and I think he does have the potential to be a good opener with some changes to his batting. He doesn’t seem out of place at the opening spot and unless SN comes up with some pretty good performance, JI should be given as many chances to prove his ability.

And yeah, for now he's a keeper who can't keep.

HHS. have you not seen him keep with the gloves? He is kinda like Dilshan. bat, ball, keep and field (the better slip fielder we have).

Keeper meaning he deserves a spot in the team.

Default Back up players

In 2007, when we toured NZ, we had three stand by players ready with visas. This time, when BCB needed to send Dollar Mahmud as an injury cover, there was a delay because of visa issue. BCB should have known there was a high risk of pacers getting injured during back to back tours in this summer heat, and should have been better prepared.

Also, in 2007, players that joined team later or on stand by status, they were in a training camp under Sarwar Imran back in Dhaka, to maintain their fitness. Has that kind of camp been arranged this time?

Eshen bro, can you really say that without that we are down to such shambles that we have to rely on expensive Dolla for our savior?

In Dollar We Trust?

The issue is not who BCB sent as injury cover, the issue is they could not send him promptly.

BTW, Siddons is taking another three weeks vacation after the tour. Does not he suppose to help players rectify their techniques during off time from international matches?!

Even the best lumberjack in the forest needs sharpening his axe. To reiterate, purpose is not to slam the team despite convincing win but rather point out the flagrant mistakes so that eventually our team can run without flaws when compiled. Without further ado, here are today's glitches:

Bangladesh in Zimbabwe ODI Series - 5th ODI
ODI no. 2874 | 2009 season
Played at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo
18 August 2009 (50-over match)

Quote:
18.4 Shakib Al Hasan to Utseya, 1 run, dropped, Dolar the culprit, Shakib had kept him quiet and Utseya lost his patience, came down the track to dismiss that tossed-up delivery over midwicket, swung across the line, got a top edge and Dolar just had a few paces back to cup that but made a mess of it
Despite his match winning performance of 4 wicket haul, he dropped a sitter. If he slowly wants to claw his way back in national team he just can't cost the team this type of loss.

Quote:
40.6 Mehrab Hossain jnr to Taylor, OUT, bowled flat from round the wicket, angled it in towards off stump and it spun away, Taylor went for the sweep, looking to play it through square leg but missed, was rapped on the pads and was given. Replays show it would have missed off, and he was struck outside the line, poor call
We had many lbw's in our favor. They had 2 fifty run 7th and 8th wicket partnerships and we basically got a gift from the umpire when Mehrab "dismissed" Brendon Taylor pitching way outside line. If the umpire wasn't Aamir Shaheba and we didn't receive this dowry, but we are playing higher ranked teams like Australia, the fact that we let them coast away with about 100 extra runs after they were 69/6 shows we still need to master the art of strangulation of the tail-enders.

Quote:
46.4 Syed Rasel to Price, OUT, moved well across to scoop it over short fine again but was rapped on the pads, Sahiba gave him out but he actually wasn't as it struck him outside the line and would have missed off anyway, poor decision again
Presuming Saheba had some diarrhea issues and wanted to wrap this game up as quickly he could he also gave away Raymond Price's wicket which was missing offstump by a long way. Again, in an international match we shouldn't ride on lucks of this sorts to get us through.

Quote:
10.4 Chigumbura to Mohammad Ashraful, OUT, what a catch! An absolute stunner, bowled short and wide, goes for the cut, connects well but finds Sibanda at point who times his jump to perfection and plucks it out of thin air one-handed, tumbles but holds on, two down now
As much as it was magnificient catch by Sibanda, Ash cannot be excused for his airy shot. Time and time again we have seen this lack of restraint from him. Just because opposition put a low total on the board doesn't mean that Ash should play carelessly. Same goes for Tamim for scoring 4 from 23 balls.

Quote:
44.4 Price to Mushfiqur Rahim, OUT, he misses out on a century! stumped, tossed it up outside off, Mushfiqur wanted to get it over and done with, charged out of his crease to loft it over the bowler's head, it turned away and Coventry clipped the bails to find him agonizingly short of a maiden ODI ton
And as far as glitches are concerned, Mushfiqur despite his valiant effort still lacks needs to develop maturity for not having cold feet in nineties. It could have been his first maiden hundred but he has to wait for another Purnima night.

Over all summary: We should have and could have easily wrapped them under 150. Opposition was unfortunate to get two unlucky lbw decisions. Failure to finish off our opponents going for the kill has cost us many times and we shouldn't be too complacent about it. Dolar dropped a sitter; Mushfiq came out short. Also, it seems that when the stakes aren't high guys like Tamim and Ash gets "too bored" and does not concentrate enough due to lack of incentives. Maybe we can improve upon these departments...

Sohel vai watch out! You got competition.

You have hit it right on the head. 4th ODI would have been like the 5th ODI if BD did not drop sitters left and right!

All these players have flaws. That is nothing new. As long as they are improving I am happy.

Tamim: Is no longer the "Musa Assasin".
Shakib: World Class in all four front.
Junaed: Getting better at opening stands.
Team: winning the games that needs to be won.

The core is set. Healthy competition from the outsiders will only make this team better.

seems 2007 version BCB was better prepared than the current one! probably bd are getting good results now because of 2007 BCB's good work.
