A cricketer friend of mine went through arthroscopic knee surgery for repairing soft tissue in the past. His recovery and rehab took a long time - more than a year. He is better now. Actually he is presently the highest wicket taker in local league.

So, there is hope. I believe he will make a good comeback. Mash is such a phenomenon. He will be impacting our younger prodigies even after retiring from International cricket in future.

I believe he will remain involved with BCB after retirement. Hope he also opens a pace academy after retirement. But his bowling best is yet to come. He should take his time and get better first. I wish him a full recovery.

It is a small scale procedure compared to major operations involving MCL, ACL etc. A month should be enough to recover provided the rehab is extensive. 8 months means its not a simple Arthroscopic procedure. Kinda confused..
Ntv must have their info wrong, cuz the BCB release, as per BC's home page says exact time is yet to be known. that makes sense, given that the wiki article indicates that arthroscopic surgery is often used as a diagnostic rather than a remedial tool.

i guess Dr Young is using it to get a better look of what exactly is wrong with mash's knee beyond x-rays and MRIs.

American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons on Arthroscopy

it is primarily a diagnostic tool, and based upon that diagnosis, the surgeon may or may not treat the problem. this is why BCB said a timetable will happen after this surgery. this surgery may not be to fix mash's knee, its basically an examination with possible treatment afterwards.

If fast bowlers were horses, they'd take them out and shoot them.

BTW, you may see why the Bangladesh team now rotates their fast bowlers ...

Yup. The Mash experience has taught them much. They are way more careful with the Rubels and Shahadats....

Very sad news

Mash should retire from Test cricket after the surgery. He should concentrate on ODIs & 20/20s only.

ahh didnt expect this. Thought it would be a minor surgery and he'd be back on his foot in no time....

he'll be out of match practice/net bowling for a while... so his 'comeback' will be take even longer than expected. Will pray for his speedy recovery....

thik bolsen murad bhai....

it'll take him forever to be test match fit again.... and with the chance of injuring himself again. Shahadat & Rubel can carry our pace attack in test...

I actually agree. Hes not that good in tests anyways. Hes a pretty good ODI player though.

It's just an arthroscopy.

Not the best news I've ever heard, but nothing that warrants much doom-mongering either.

Oh god...just the thought of those two moronic buffoons leading our pace attack makes me cringe...

BD cricket board has to really get cracking to improve their pace bowling, seeing that Mash will be out for more than 4 months. Shahadat is not bad, but very wayward and they should tell him to stop his grunting. They should have an intense bowling camp for a few weeks befor the nextt test series.
If they can improve the performance of 6 pace bowlers for ODIs and test matches, then they will be OK. They should follow SL example, they do not have a shortage of pace bowlers.
