Optimistic but our team is nowhere near sri lankan 96 team. de silva was a better batsman than all our players put together.

its true, talent wise and skillwise we are a lot behind. but all i felt is we can have a similar approach to game like the SL96 team gave.

Srilanka invented the use of Fielding Restriction during 1st 15 overs. What we are going to invent?

if my memory is correct ... players like srikkanth, greatbatch, hudson have used fielding restrictions before ...
what SL did was, using both batsman to take the attack.

True, but they were just aggressive batters to play like that. Team strategy didnt make them bound to do that.
Srilanka used it as a strategy to generate quick run during fielding restriction. After that it had become must as strategy in ODI for all the team. For this they promote Jayasuria to opening from No 7.

SL in 96 changed oneday cricket. Similar approach won't work. All we need our players to use their brain. They have talent otherwise we wouldn't have won against England a couple of weeks ago but the same team lost to Ireland and The Netherlands.
We don't get off to a good start because one of our openers gets out early and if that opener is tamim then our run rat suffers. and even if tamim gets going, he gets out after scoring fifty. Kayes can't rotate the strike. Ash has mental block. he has all the shots in the world but no idea which one to play against any given ball. If the luck is on his side, he would end up play right shot or it will get ugly. God knows what happened to Shakib and Mahmudullah can't even score run a ball in death overs.
Our Bowlers have improved, fielding has improved but our batsmen fail to follow instruction. What we need is Tamim needs to understand his role better and calm down. Also we need junaed and Kayes to work on rotating strike since none of them are boundary hitters. I am afraid that nothing will help Ash at this point. We need someone who could hit over the top during 2nd and 3rd powerplay. Cause we never seem to hit any boundary in those overs and also loose to many wickets. Now if we can get those things right then we will have a decent team.

Kudos to offstump he had the Sri Lankan batsman and their theory worked out correctly. The key however was not only the combination, but more the combined experience of the team. Guys like Mahanama and Tillakarate had been around fear years. Aravinda who his now the Chairman of Selectors for SL also stressed recently about taking experienced players to win a WC.
