I can not be much happy with that news. As long as he does not retire, he can umpire our matches. We may see him more often than before umpiring weaker teams like us.

Actually, don't you have to be on the elite panel to umpire tests?

He has to be renominated by Srilanka's board to remain on the ICC panel. So, it is not a sure thing that he will officiate any future international games. But it is likely the Lanka will keep him in order to inflict pain on his neighbors. He will probably never be selected or accepted to offiate games involing the top teams only.

He was not just incompetent but more often than not choses to err in favor of the stronger team. The incident in world cup that led to his humiliation was against Ireland (a lily-white team). So, it is just not his subservient instincts that played a part on his frequently absurd decisions. He just compensated his lack of observational skill with the statistical probability (i.e. better team gets the benefit of doubt). Good riddance!

We should all thank the Irish captain for his brave act. A BD captain would never say anything against any umpires even if they give so many bad decisions against BD. All of them are scared of match fees and bans.

In 2003 for his bad decision against Bangladesh one of our official complained to ICC & for this he dropped from elite panel but after few years he promoted.

Let's see, J stands for JACK. You can fill the rest.

The party is on and yes, "June 31st" is officially the Ashoka Day at BC.

What about asaud rauf? He isn't that good of a umpire, always gives wrong LBW decisions.

Most importantly, as pointed earlier by someone, do you need to be an elite panel umpire to officiate in test matches ??

If not, then we are screwed even more.

There should be an umpiring ranking system.
And yes Rabz, one of the two umpires have to be on the elite panel.
