Same issue there - playing a very capable top/middle order batsman way too low down the order (#8) for years and expecting 50s and 100s.

Dont get me wrong. I also wish well for Naeem. But I saw him live in Oval, London playing against a Surrey reserve side and struggling hopelessly. If my memory serves me right, it took him 33 balls to get off the mark blocking fulltosses, half-vollies and then got out horribly. I wasnt very impressed at all by his technique. I'm not totally convinced yet, either. Lets wait and see. But hope he flourish and become the batter to your reckoning.

You can say that about Permaul, not Narine. Wasn't this pitch even flatter when WI were batting? But thats when we were hearing DMan state that Narine & Permaul were going to run through us. Remember Bishoo too was hyped...ICC rookie of the year, where is he now?
|
You mean the same Bishoo who took a 5fer in the second test the last time we toured Bang and won us the series? Narine's figures were clearly damaged by the early Tamim assult, since then he's clearly kept things tight, i wouldn't get too cocky if i were you because Bishoo struggled in the first test last year aswell,
Quote:
As for Roach, did he start swinging the ball on a dead pitch like this - like Edwards could have - in his Aussie 10fer? Did get shape off the deck? If not well he would have figures like what Best has today, because they seem to similar styles. Roach was hammered last time he was here, sure he might have been off form, but I highly doubt he's morphed in 13 months time.
|
Erm Roach and Best are NOTHING alike at all!! , Roach has much more control and can move it away from both left and right handers, also we played on an absolute roach in england in the second test and he was troubling the batsmen all day, so i doubt he would have struggled here,
Quote:
At any rate, WI will likely win this game, but this session is the crucial one coming up. Determines whether WI can declare early on Day 4 and give themselves 5 sessions to bowl us out or whether Bangladesh can shave WI lead to the point that WI have to bat another 3 sessions to set a defendable target.
|
LOL i see what you've done there, you don't wanna jinx your team by saying what looks like being a draw so you're saying we're gonna win!! , i'm not bothered if this is a draw as long as we win the second test just like we did last year.

The good thing is with teh FTP and general trends in Test cricket, he will probably never see such a pitch even if he gets 100 test caps.
Mushfiq on the other hand is afar more technically competant fellow and a more assured stroke player also. But we finally have a middle order that is decent (legendary by BD standards) even compared to G8 sides.
I think SN still has a place in teh side, Junaid should be a 12th man slip catcher...and Riyad will have to fight for a place.
Just imagine 2-3 years from now when Anamul and Soumya come into the side, domestic records indicate they're better than even the guys we have now (barring Tamim, SHakib, Mushy, Nasir).
We just need some bowlers.
|
Technique is overrated, results are all that matter. You don't see other top order batsmen lasting as long as he has. If the pitch is so easy to bat on, Tamim/SN/Junaed should have lasted longer.

150 up. Now aim for 200.
Shakib needs to be calm. He is in the 80s. Naeem should be patient.

I don't hope so aggression from them. Just try to stay, runs will come easily.

Shakib is showing an aggressive intent, I just hope that he tries to keep the ball down as much as possible.
Hats off to Naeem for fighting his way back to the team! I think a 100 today will show that he is ready to solidify his position in the middle order.
