this is EXACTLY how you approach a steep run chase. the sri lankans are still far from a win, but whether they eventually pull it of or not, they are on the right track at the moment.

the world should watch and learn.

Rain can ruin this match.

Sri Lanka need to score quickly to get ahead of D/L par score.

Excellent stuff from the Sri Lankans. When the field is spread, they are taking singles easily and when they are protecting singles, going for the boundaries. Some help from the luck and Sri Lanka is on for it!

Really, following the match today, I'm getting the feeling of two of the best teams fighting for pride. None of them are yet ready to give up, and they are holding on to it.

This is one more reason to justify why both Australia and Sri Lanka are playing in the finals. Trust me, only they deserve to play here.

This is what you call CRICKET. These guys really shouldn't be mixing with the rest of the world. They belong here, in the finals. So I take my words back. The next world cup should have all the teams fighting for 3rd position. Sri Lanka and Australia should be automatically promoted to the final, and they'll fight there.

However, since we're playing in the next world cup, I'ld choose SL to play against. Australia can compete for 3rd spot
Quote:
18.6 Watson to Sangakkara, 1 run, retains the strike with a flick past square-leg
18.5 Watson to Sangakkara, 2 runs, eye-catching stroke. Full on a length, on the off stump line, slanting away, Sangakkara moves back and across, waits and caresses it throught point. Nonchalantly played
18.4 Watson to Jayasuriya, 1 run, short and well outside off stump, Jayasuriya moves across, punches it through the off side region.
18.3 Watson to Sangakkara, 1 run, slightly short, on the middle stump line, Sangakkara pulls it to deep midwicket
18.2 Watson to Jayasuriya, 1 run, Gilchrist is standing up to the stumps. Full in length, slanting away from Jayasuriya who tries to slash it away on the up, doesn't time it well but still picks up a single as the ball darts to the cover region
18.1 Watson to Sangakkara, 1 run, fullish, outside off stump, Sangakkara doesn't move much, waits and carves it on the up to sweeper cover.

Dhaatttt. That's why I should keep my mouth shut. The last time I was quiet, wickets were intact. Now that I started talking again, wicket fell.

once again, two SL batsmen score fifties in an inning.

looks like jayawardene will have to do something special with the bat today. jayasuriya seems to be struggling.

IMHO they should just try not to lose wickets for 8/10 overs more and take singles, and then trying some slogging in the last 7/8 overs.
