To me Ash is a poor selection. Even Mehrab Jn is a better option to me.

I would not put one of the newbies, ie Momin or Marshall, at #4. Riyad, being one of the senior most members of the team, should step up and take the responsibility. Also, now that we have Sohag, Riyad needs to realize he is value as a utility player (who can bowl offspin) is down, time to prove his worth as a specialist batsman.
My XI would be
Tamim
Jahurul
Anam
Riyad
Nasir
Mushfiq
Marshall
Sohag
Sunny
Rubel
Robiul/Abul
12th man: Ash (he is a darn good fielder)
Water/Towels: SRK

Eshen, both SRK and Ash will be in the playing XI of the first Test.

So, we will play effectively with 9 players?! Neither of them should have been even in the squad after their inconsistent shows in NCL/BCL.

Actually SRK has been the most consistent pacer in the NCL/BCL. Thats why he keeps getting selected. He just flops in Tests.

He showed better endurance to play more NCL/BCL matches, comparing to other pacers. But with only one fifer in a season, he is hardly being consistent.

I don't put any value in number of our domestic fivers, because BCB/NCL almost seem to be conspiring to make sure that our pace stocks remain below that of Phillipines 3rd XI. Only 15 overs of pace allowed to be bowled by pacers in a day's play. BCL was only a Handful of games. If you went purely by NCL fivers then Farhad Reza should spearhead our attack and Rubel should sit well behind Mohammad Sharif on the depth chart. SRK still has double the number of fivers in Test cricket than all other Bangladeshi pacers combined. If SRK has maintained a SR of around 50 or below this season, I don't see any reason to pick any other pacer over him, unless his name is Taskin. As much as he has been sucking for the past 3 years, he's the only pace bowler we has actually bowled like a pace bowler at any point in his career. Everyone else is just a pie hurling trundler.
Same reason why Ash was the next choice after Naeem, Shahriar, and Marshall. He's still our leading Test centurion after 12 years of Test cricket. Our batting stock is now a lot better than our pace stocks.

even though shahadat sucks it's easy to see why he keeps getting selected, as said he's the only pacer (other than mash) who's actually done any thing decent for any amount of time. we can talk potential all we want, but nothings going to change the fact that shahadat's average of 50 in tests and the 5fers he's got is way better than what anyone else currently around has done.
in saying that he's averaged 89.55 in the last 3 years with a strike rate of 123.3 so he's been no better than the others in recent years, though he does have a 5fer in that time.

That's my point exactly - the old Shahadat we knew is gone. With his unrully lifestyle and drug addiction, he is only a shadow of himself now. It's time to move on and try other options. Robiul or Abul is probably not upto par to satisfy the requirments either, they should be still tried and tested before we move onto someone else.

Shahadat is a drug addict?

Never liked this Selection panel but i lost all respect for team Akram after the selection of Ashraful. It's absolutely ridiculous that he is in the squad!!! He didn't make runs in NCL and he wasn't in the squad of 25. What is the use of having a squad as large as 25 if you are not going find replacement from there? If Ash is the first choice replacement then why wasn't he in the 25 player list? What message does this send to the remaining players?
We might not be able to produce players of the quality of Kallis, Clarke etc yet but i fail to understand why we can't establish proper procedures. Board interference, politics, mismanaged injuries, leaked news on coach negotiations, selection drama before each and every major tournament is really frustrating to see because those are purely management problems and BCB has the money to employ very good professionals to do the job.

What makes this decision even more ridiculous is that there is only one middle order position open, and it was being debated hotly which one from Momin and Marshall should get it. Yet Akram brings another extra middle order batsman in the squad.
On the otherhand, our top order mainstay Tamim is carrying an injury, yet there is no backup for three top order batsmen we currently have in the squad.

^ My guess is they are thinking about using Ashraful as an opener because he played in that position for Dhaka in BPL.

No, not for test cricket. BPL and longer version is different. He played at no 4 or 5 in domestic 4 day matches.

Well knowing our management, I wouldn't put it past them. They have done even crazier things in the past.

Lets see if Ash dares even to bat one-down in Test cricket (he has not taken that chance even in FC cricket lately). Tamim is unlikely to play the warm up, someone from middle order will have to bat at #3 after Aumi-Bijoy. But my guess is that someone else will be entrusted with that risk of batting out of his usual position, not Sir Ash.

Agreed that Riyad should bat at #4. Having Marshall or Mominul there is just too risky. Really like our lineup there

Oh thank God! Jebabhe ghumai ghumai bowl kore, I thought he was hooked on heroin or something.
I'll bet half the team tokes up recreationally. Marijuana is so ubiquitous these days, and relatively harmless, that I don't really care if he smokes that asides from the fact that any sort of smoking is bad for the fitness of a pro athlete. But given that never stops guys in the NFL or the NBA, can't really complain.
