I just hope he could get through to some of our Thick Headed pacers.
I think Masrafe is gonna have a breakout tour in Sri Lanka. I think we're gonna see more variations in Pace and Line from him.

This is the best piece of news we had in a while. The ramifications are huge especially for the World Cup in the Caribbean! Great move!

Though fast bowlers as said, are not made but born, I hope he will be able to find a couple from the pacer hunt selects.
Hope we are entering another era of cricket by having a dedicated bowling coach...after this, what excuse will we have, I wonder..

Be sure, we need at least few more things for Andy Roberts, we still don't have any fast pitches yet manufactured by Board People (!), the pitches where bounce are not even, sometimes low and lower than anything, purely for batting in Dhaka, Chittagong!
It's another good news we have, there are seven new pitches have been constructed by the best curator of Australia, the master of creating fast bowling pitches in Australia! I forget his name though!
The seven pitches behave differently from one another, those will favor each for batsman, fast bowler and spinner too. But so far I know, the pitches of such fast track still not preapared for practice as the Mirpur Ground is not ready which is the one after bangabandhu in Dhaka! And, it will not be okay untill next year, may be by early year or mid year of 2006. And, people are in shortage of a ground now a days, as far I know in Dhaka there is no ground for the practice session.
Where you will use Andy Roberts, at Indoor Stadium at Mirpur, where you will find synthetic turf!!?? Surely no use of calling earlier him at such a climate where Board has no pitches at any ground for Fast Bowlers (!) and for Andy & Mashrafe ppl.
Again, there is a condioning camp in chittagong at Sagorika Stadium! I feel Dav Whatmore should leave Dhaka with Andy soon at conditioning camp at Chittagong, and leave for Sri Lanka at least few days earlier for a ground practice by Andy! And, in Bangladesh its been the rainsy season, so Mr. Andy Roberts should coach the players at Indoor and Concentrate at technique for the Pace Guns of Bangladesh!
Somebody here saying that the decision is late, as it is late......... Where Andy will coach the boys???

Reaction of our pacers:

But pacemen Mashrafee-Bin-Mortuza, Tapash Baisya believed that there was hardly any scope to bring about dramatic changes. If anything he might be able to fine-tune certain aspects.
"I've experienced taking part in a clinic under the supervision of West Indies great Andy Roberts. Although there is nothing else to know from him I still think he can still assist the young players," said the Narail tearaway, who was satisfied with his bowling in England.
His new-ball partner Tapash echoed similar sentiments.
"At my age there are hardly any scope to change my action. At best what he can do is correct minor faults. I think Karppinen is doing an excellent job for us," said the right-arm paceman.
But young Nazmul Hossain welcomed the chance to work under a specialist bowling coach.
"He will help us to deal with small problems like how to bowl to a left-hander. I think we can get valuable tips from him (Roberts)."

I found it odd to hear Mashrafee/Tapash say such comments.. even australia has bowling coaches that the senior players practice with. With different pitch, climate, opposition condition a bowling coach advises the players accordingly even if they dont work on a new action.. And since when did Mashrafee/Tapash become 30 year olds that they cant learn anything new? if what they displayed so far is what they can do til the end of their career... then ....

I also find it odd, it may be the reporter misquted them or used the statement out of context.
A bower has to know when to do what besides just learning deliary variations. There is a lot all our bowlers need to learn.

Here we go.. According to Bdkhela...
Masri said, "I am very lucky! I had his at the begining of my career. And I still follow his advice. If he comes this time, I will discuss with him some other things. I am working on seaming and swing, I will ask his advice on them."
Nazmul Said, "I dont want to change my action that much. But I am having difficulties bowling againt left handed batsmen. I will ask him for a solution. "
Taposh said he is too old and does not want to work with action or run-up. If the bowling coach comes, he will consult him for swing and spot.

Our bowlers sounding arrogant.... and unwilling to learn. Are they thinking they have become like Wasim-Waqar already?

i think bowlers grow up at a pretty young age, after 20 there is not much to change. maybe reverse swing or some other secret staff bowlers like wasim or waqar were very good bowlers at the age of 20. waqar was quickest when he started at 19 or something and was already crushing the toes of many top batsmen around the world.
so dont hold your breath, mashrafi wont be much better than what u r seeing him now

Welcome back, Mr. Roberts. Just read on Ittefaq that, Masree, Tapash and Najmul are very excited. Spinners are little dishearted, but still hoping to pick Andy Roberts' brain. Here is the link:

I hope he will be able to straighten up Talha and Rajib. That will teach Taposh to be more enthusiastic to learn new things.

BCB is hiring someone only for temporary basis not for permanent. That is not good

the real reason is that "preliminary consideration" means - they are having difficulties with that darn fax machine again.

Guyz..
Wont it be good if Andy teaches Rajib & Talha besides Mahrafee, Naz, Tapash....
I doubt they brought him only for the ones in the national team....
I would propose - BCB to organize a camp after the SL series for all those bowlers out their in the domestic cricket too...along with players in u19, u17, u15 also...

my point exactly, i think we need to stress more on our upcoming cricketers.
In just a week, Andy was able to pinpoint at least 2-3 good bowlers. I think Talha can improve a great deal since he's been suffering a lot from injuries and pummelled by opposition batsmen. Clearly Nazmul have problems too. I'm not worried about Mashrafee as he clearly has a level head on his shoulders and knows exactly how to organize his career in cricket. A good amount of work is need on Rajib though.
About spinners- i think we have enough quality former spin bowlers in the country who can assist our spinners.
About the quality of wickets, no matter where they bring what from, may it be south africa, australia or timbuctoo- the main factor is our weather. So it will never produce a fast track like WACA or Northern Province for that matter.
I hope i'm wrong though.
