Happy independence day. From the millions enjoying freedom today, to the three million who can't: You will NOT be forgotten.

As for Pakistan, the SAVAGE, UNRESTRAINED brutality that they displayed in '71 haunts them to this day. Karma is a b*tch.

Interesting to note even on the surrender agreement Bangla Desh is two words. In the international media, it was written as two words till the independence, as one word after. Was it the same inside Bangladesh too ?

In English language publications, yes it was.

I also consider myself extremely lucky too, because our entire family managed to be intact. When we returned to Dhaka on '72 again I saw huge number of physically harmed people around, for which one generous European old man/couple built 'Pongu Hospital' [first ever and still probably only one in Bangladesh] near Shyamoli.

Looks like both of our family faced same long journey on foot, and were very fortunate to remain unhurt on mercy of God.

Every year, this reminds me of the great spirit and unbreakable determination of our freedom Fighters. They dreamt of a free Bangladesh. A dream so powerful that nothing stood in their way.

We have failed them. Badly.

For some reasons my heart is shuttered seeing the image below. What a sweet baby in such a misery. Even after the holocaust we still see images like this in our streets. Where is the joy in this independence!!

Funny thing is we (Bengalis) created Pakistan and we were most at loss from it. Nevertheless Happy Independence Day everyone!

Sabina Yasmin's songs/words played a big role in constructing my mind's images of our war of Independence, the sacrifice made by the brave mothers, fathers, children and the Freedom Fighters.

a bit late here, Happy Independence day everyone,

a couple of my mamas(apon) fought in it and survived(Alhamdulillah!) still alive today!

we should not forget, there were some Bangladeshi people who assisted in killing their own people!

the criminals get away here, but not afterlife!

Happy Shadhinota Dibash, everyone.

Generally, the Bangladesh Embassy in DC hosts functions to celebrate our Shadhinota and Bijoy Dibash-es and announces them on the Embassy homepage. I must admit that I was a little disappointed to see them announcing such a function for the 90th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation on March 17th, but not for the Shadhinota Dibash itself.

It is oiling what they consider most.
No wonder they didn't hesitate to change a Stadium's name from a Bir Sreshtha to BAL leader.

I am glad to see you spell SHADHINOTA the way you have.

Nowadays folks put in too many Vs and Ws in every Bangla word to be written in English.

I was 4, and don't remember much. I think I saw a poster of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

My father took us to the village for the entire 9 months. And it was almost quite there.

We were lucky, I guess.
