BK bhai, thank you for sharing the story. The honesty with which you wrote it all up, is awe-inspiring. And I love how you always remembered your roots. I feel strongly for those who make it big in life but still never forget how/where they've come from.

I knew most of Zaved's (BK) story, but it was great to read it. I personally feel that it is critical for us to have lived an honest life for the sake of the Almighty Allah. I pray that He helps us all live a good life and save us from the hellfire.
I, thankfully, did not have to struggle as much, but I had to struggle. I was able to pay my way after my H.S.C., alhamdulillah. I went to India for my undergraduate studies on a scholarship. I came home and explored joining BUET. That is when I found out about the provincial mentality at BUET---unless you are ours, you are no good. (I hope that this mentality has changed since then.) It was a blessing in disguise, because I then joined BIT, Rajshahi (now RUET) and taught there for 3 years. It allowed me an opportunity to stay with my family before heading overseas. I came to University of Rochester for a Ph.D. in Electromagnetics. I knew within a year that I was not interested in this area. I took a course on medical imaging during my second semester and the professor asked me to be his Ph.D. student. That's how I came into my area of work. I did a postdoc in Houston and then joined my present employer in NY. There had been a lot of difficulties, struggles, and pitfalls along the way. But, that is life. Isn't it? Life is a mixture of hard work, heartbreak, and enjoyment.
PS: I got engaged to be married while working at BIT. The marriage took place before I came to the US. I guess our parents were worried in case I got involved in "extracurricular" activities.
