A large chunk of these are the banned spam bots. Some are sleeper spam bots who've signed up some time back and suddenly gets activated a few years down the road. With captcha and interrogation validation we have reduced some but they still pop up now and then. Most of you doth see them before some Mod/Admin yields Thor's Banhammer on them. Users have never been deleted.

I need to RTFM. Perhaps the count provided by the software excludes banned members. If that is so, then the number if banned member = uid of latest member - # of members as provided by software. So we have around 1K banned members if that is so - or during the transition from old software to the new one, the count got reset to 1K plus.

Yeah - spam bots sign up almost every day. IN three years that gives us 1K. Why do you think mods don't post anymore - too busy stamping out the spam bots.

It is said that a Cambridge University fast-bowler who, fed up with the slow, placid pitches at his home ground of Fenners, decided to upset the complacency of the opposing batsman with this threat to their personal safety patented this delivery. At Fenners it was very difficult to detect the ball in flight since the ball came at the batsman out of a dark background of trees. And that's how the term beamer originated.
