Final group standings

Here are the schedules for the Qualifiers.
ESPN3 starts showing them tonight at 2 AM Eastern.
AFG and NAM topped their groups and they go head to head.
The losing side still can manage to be in the final though, but after playing one more match.

The post-league game format is so confusing! I couldn't figure out head to butt looking at those list of 76(!) games on CI.

And this is what I was talking about. ESPN3 starts showing these games, and I wanted USA to be there. Seeing USA in that list would've increased the views.

Don't like the fact that Namibia and Afg are going to kill off each other. The way they played, they both deserves to qualify. In fact ALL 6 of these teams should be allowed in! Dumb ICC (may be some other team than Canada.)

I couldn't figure out CI fixture either. Hence my search for a graphical table. The link above did the trick. The format tries its best to foster the best team out of 6 going through without doing a super 6.

The only problem is EP01 and EP02 starts at the same time and I cannot fathom how ESPN3 will choose between them. Prob Canada game?

I don't think they have trouble doing it as they do crap load of NCAA games at once, it's whether they want to do that with cricket all. They could easily broadcast both the games.

Afghanistan v Namibia (1st in Group A v 1st in Group B)

After a pair of tight victories to start off Group A against Papua New Guinea and the Netherlands, Afghanistan coasted through the rest of pool play to finish with seven wins from seven. Mohammad Shahzad and Karim Sadiq are second and third overall on the tournament runs aggregate list, with 261 and 255 respectively. When the team ran into trouble against PNG and Canada, Mohammad Nabi and Samiullah Shenwari contributed key half-centuries. If one member of the batting unit fails, someone is always ready to pick up the slack.

Dawlat Zadran has stepped up in the absence of Hamid Hassan to lead the bowling unit with 11 wickets, including 5 for 14 against Hong Kong. The spin trio of Sadiq, Shenwari and Zamir Khan have bowled economically and combined for 19 wickets.

They'll have their hands full against a very deep Namibia batting lineup which brutalised Group B bowling attacks to be the highest scoring team in the tournament and also finish undefeated. The Namibians batted first in six out of seven games, posting big totals to build scoreboard pressure. Raymond van Schoor has played a major role in that, leading the tournament in both runs and average with 323 at 80.75.

Louis van der Westhuizen scored one of the tournament's two centuries with 106 not out in 54 balls against Scotland and his strike rate of 172.72 is the best of anyone in the tournament with a minimum of 50 runs. Opener Gerrie Snyman is also a tone-setter: he is Namibia's third-highest scorer with 173 runs, 69% of which have come in fours and sixes.

Namibia had two close games against Ireland and Uganda, both of which were won by four runs. Their recipe for success against Scotland, USA and Italy was to bat them out of the game to mask an average bowling attack. They'll have to do the same if they are to come out on top against Afghanistan.

Match begins at 6 am today on Espn3.

I think we already went over this, but just to refresh, all the Afg players are very well built. They got some heavy hitters. That's what the assos. teams should do. Build their players up. If you don't need any traditional cricketing skills to be big and powerful.

Afganistan has potential to be a great asian cricket team because they have a lot of fans behind them. I think this is the major reason our team improved drasticly aswell ...

Congrats to Afghanistan. We saw once again why Afghanistan and Ireland are really well ahead of the rest of the pack. Namibia and Netherlands have good teams as well. The rest of the teams still have a ways to go before they can become classy sides.

Ya they have a lot of potential. It's already become their #1 sport and on top of that their in Asia which is a cricket crazy continent. The downside of Ireland is that they have a very small population already and on top of that their most popular sports are gaelic football, soccer, and rugby. So I see them being another New Zealand which I wouldn't mind at all. I just think that Afghanistan has a bigger upside.

Well big matches tomorrow and will be on ESPN3.
In fact either Namibia or IREland will play two games tomorrow!
First one is a do or die, second one for standing - and probably placement in the brackets in SL.
I would like to see a AFG BD game at the T20I Finals. That will not happen.

Here is where they will end up:

They should have ended up in C or D with the top ones from C D going to A and B.

But I understand, the new comers have a harder test. And this way you have the better teams progressing probabilistic-ally.
Bangladesh is last in the entry.

Namibia;s game plan is simple, bat first get a massive total and make up for deficiency in bowling. Toss is important tomorrow.
IReland ... not much to say. Good all around. If IRE bat first, Namibia is history. But then again I may eat my words.

Ireland are a really talented team I have to say. I hope all their talents are not snatched up by the ECB.

Congrats to both teams, especially Ireland for winning this tournament.

Both Ireland and Afghanistan will make great additions to the World T20 this September, and I think at least one of them will cause an upset. Their consistent performances are proof that cricket is really taking root in those countries. The cricket fraternity is growing.

I'd like to see Afghanistan play in the next Asia Cup.

I would too, when will the maiden ODI against BD take place? Can't wait.
I don't want a T20 against us - I want an ODI, and FC would be better!
