Very well said. The Bangladeshi cricketers have already lost respect and dignity after their symbolical performance against Windies and Saffers, if they continue to perform in such poor manner, they will lose the only thing they have left.

What fans like us expected was we will have a solid fight and we will turn our half-chances to full chance to beat major teams. Did we have a banana skin against Ireland? Netherlands? Canada? We did beat England and had Shevagh not been in for that day and we had a Mashrafee or Nazmul, we very well had a fight against India.

Yes, the fans sometimes expect much more from a team that is still becoming a force. We knew that South Africa will be a major task, we also knew that beating India would not be easy. One blunder we did was to expect beating West Indies easily... and that's where we slipped pretty bad. Our players just fell flat but I can bet that if you have a re-match, it won't be a cakewalk for the Indies again... provided we have the right team selection.

We are not over-rated at all.. we are the number 8-9 team and that's where we are. We are expected to beat associate teams and we do that regularly. We sometimes beat major team and we do that too...We have few world class players instead of 5-6 like a top 5 will have and that makes us who we are, the number 9 team in world cricket. So where are we overrated?

Perfectly said...

Bangladesh team is totally hyped in Bangladesh. They are a pretty ordinary team, and if associates are given some exposure they surely will perform better than us. We got happy winning against Zimbabwe (Who are no where as strong as they were once), a depleted West Indies (See what they did in our own back yard, kicked our asses big time) and at a time confused and out of focus NZ (Though here we played decently).

When it comes to real test we are thrashed, all of people here were so confident we will defeat India, they challenged us, Sehwag said it is a revenge match, and reach fcuked us in our own back yard, humiliating us. A must win match against West Indies and we were so sure, we will defeat them, and they finished day and night match in day itself, again humiliated us. Thank god we won against Ireland (Frankly it was their inexperience that they lost wickets and lost, a little exposure they had they would have easily defeated us). South Africa was again a same story. Does a test team get out at 58 and 78. Like many times we needed a fluke and england was very patch, we barely managed to win. 8 wickets down, it was allah's will that 160 M people were praying, he had mercy on us

We keep boasting that our players have talent, the world does not boast them, IPL, Australia Big Bash are always open for good players. Here we say he hass scored so many runs, taken so many wickets, but what Big Bash and IPL take is not this total record, but rather what is this person's record against good teams, and our Tigers are nothing. They take real numbers for giving numbers (Money) to us. When we have nothing we get nothing. That is why we do not get appreciation.

Let us get out of the veil created by our media and go by the facts. Just go to cricinfo and then take his record against good teams and real matches and compare it to records of players of good teams (Aus, Eng, Ind, Pak, SL, SA) and you will get the answer.

Talks can be very good here. I will be happy if anyone get back with real no (Please do not include runs against Depleted WI or Zim, but rather real teams). It will take ages for us to come to some level

I agree with the title of the thread but the thread starters intial comments are a bit OTT. BD team is improving comparing to the team 5-6 years ago, but the team wasnt good enough. This tournament proved that.

Bangladesh fielding is one of the best and some of the catches have been really good. The new bowlers are improving every match.

However the batting has become herendous....Tamim has gone fat and doesnt look in the zone, Juaneed Siddiqui is a below par batsman, Mushfiqur also seems like he has forgotten how to hold a bat and Sharear Al Mofees shouldnt even be the water boy. However I am quite impressed with Imrul who has improved his batting and fielding.

NZ series wasn't a fluke. It was a Shakib show. Go look at the stats. Then go look at the history of the game. See if you can find another instance were a player dominated batting, bowling, fielding and (this is a big one) captaining.

Vettori before coming to BD had said they had to stop Shakib. He continued his rhetoric after coming to BD. All the media have that. Go look for Cricinfo articles as well. They knew what must be done to STOP BD. They couldn't. How can you stop an unstoppable object?

We had witnessed something that may not be matched for a long time. Give credit where credit is due. Hats off to BD management and team for achieving something without the big guns (Tamim, Mash, and yes, ofcourse Sir Ash) participating.

Our batsmen are over rated, bowlers are under rated. As a team, I am not sure. NZ series was no fluke, all the matches were competitive and we came out winners.

One sure thing is, we are under-achiever. A twick here and there would have done wonders. We need a good #4 batsman and a batting allrounder at #7/#8. Then proper planning, motivation and hard work can make the team a real force. Our resources are not properly utilized, attributed to the weak team management, coach-without-a-practical-vision, biased selectors and things like that.

I thought the title of the thread was quite appropriate. However, I do not agree with some of the sweeping comments against the team, but people have a right to their opinion. But you took it one step too far, by saying Bangladesh does not deserve test status in your signature. I don't know what purpose that will serve after 11 years and writing in a Bangladeshi forum. If you are thinking about Big Bash and IPL then don't even bother commenting on test status. I for one think that these 20/20 formats are hurting cricket so much. Once again, this world cup has shown that real cricket can be enjoyed in a ODI match, and for people with patience there still is test cricket.

Welcome back haven't seen you a lot during WC...great justified post mentioning about Shakib's contribution during NZ tour...NZ wasn't able to stop him but others did good job stopping him in the WC hence our result was like that especially against WI and SA.

not to take anything away from shakib, but it wasn't a totally shakib show. shakib won half of the games single handedly, with ball in the first and bat in the third. but the 2nd ODI was won by Nafees, and Rubel won the last one. in the world cup we saw how shafiul and imrul stepped up.

zimbabwe series, on the other hand was a Razzak show.

as for jashan's comments. look at the most recent test record...which team has the fewest innings defeats in last 10 tests...you will be surprised to see Bangladesh amongst the best in that group. also we've pushed more tests to the 5th day than pakistan has.

do Test teams get bundled out for double digit scores? Pakistan got shot out for 70 odd in 1992...and they ended up winning the Cup.

i'd do more homework if i were you, otherwise focus your time and energy on things which you actually have some knowledge of.

Kindly give me the no of 10 tests and how all teams have fared. And also whom did Bangladesh play against.

Bangladesh lost 107 runs lost 2nd v Sri Lanka Dhaka 26 Dec 2008 investigate this query
Bangladesh lost 465 runs lost 2nd v Sri Lanka Chittagong 3 Jan 2009 investigate this query
Bangladesh won 95 runs won(Against a sub standard team) 1st v West Indies Kingstown 9 Jul 2009 investigate this query
Bangladesh won 4 wickets won(Against a sub standard team) 2nd v West Indies St George's 17 Jul 2009 investigate this query
Bangladesh lost 113 runs won 2nd v India Chittagong 17 Jan 2010 investigate this query
Bangladesh lost 10 wickets won 1st v India Dhaka 24 Jan 2010 investigate this query
Bangladesh lost 121 runs won 2nd v New Zealand Hamilton 15 Feb 2010 investigate this query
Bangladesh lost 181 runs won 2nd v England Chittagong 12 Mar 2010 investigate this query
Bangladesh lost 9 wickets won 1st v England Dhaka 20 Mar 2010 investigate this query
Bangladesh lost 8 wickets won 2nd v England Lord's 27 May 2010 investigate this query
Bangladesh lost inns & 80 runs lost 2nd v England Manchester 4 Jun 2010

Do you have any substance. Look at last 11 matches. 2 Matches won against a Sub Standard WI who had filed a team when 20 YES 20 PLAYERS did not sign the contracr.

Look at other matches. All bloody thrashing. Not loosing by an inning is nothing. Even the Dud 3rd test we loose big time. the closest victory is some 120 runs. Lol. And you still expect a test status. Rather we should be stripped of it.

Here is the Pakistani performance

Pakistan lost 150 runs won 2nd v Australia Lord's 13 Jul 2010 investigate this query
Pakistan won 3 wickets lost 2nd v Australia Leeds 21 Jul 2010 investigate this query
Pakistan lost 354 runs lost 2nd v EnglandHere we had spot fixing row Nottingham 29 Jul 2010 investigate this query
Pakistan lost 9 wickets won 1st v EnglandHere we had spot fixing row Birmingham 6 Aug 2010 investigate this query
Pakistan won 4 wickets lost 2nd v EnglandHere we had spot fixing row The Oval 18 Aug 2010 investigate this query
Pakistan lost inns & 225 runs won 2nd v EnglandHere we had spot fixing row Lord's 26 Aug 2010 investigate this query
Pakistan draw - lost 2nd v South Africa Dubai 12 Nov 2010 investigate this query
Pakistan draw - won 2nd v South Africa Abu Dhabi 20 Nov 2010 investigate this query
Pakistan won 10 wickets won 2nd v New Zealand Hamilton 7 Jan 2011 investigate this query
Pakistan draw - lost 2nd v New Zealand Wellington 15 Jan 2011

Here is a team which was at its all time lowest, under such a big controversy but in last 10 test they still managed to win 3, Drew 3 matches. It is not like they won 2 against a substandard team and got thrashing against all 8.

Again come with figured. Just dont just come out with a random thing. All is in from of you. WE DO NOT DESERVE TEST STATUS

A quick question for you. Why do you use the pronoun "we" in "We do not deserve Test status?".

@jashan83

Scorecards don’t always tell the whole story…here’s my version of what you don’t see on these scorecards—in the past when we played against teams like England/India they’d go on to declare at 550/6 in 1st innings, then we’d get bundled out for 150 in our first innings, their bowlers would get really bored in the second innings and allow us to score 280. In reality there was no contest to begin with particularly after the second session of the 1st day onwards.

What’s changed in the past couple of years is we score 350 against the same English/Indian team, then they score 450, then we score 150/2 before a collapse starts and we end up conceding a 8 wicket defeat. In other words, we frustrate their best bowlers and at times their best batsmen, fight toe to toe with them 3 ½ -- 4 days, manage to bring out the best in them and then start losing our way in the last hour of the 4th or 5th day.

This is what’s missing from the picture you present.

Wow what an achievement. The truth is we had been loosing badly and one a while a fluke like in 1999 and now also we get thrashed, 58, 78, Sehwag gave an open challenge and fcuked us in Bangladesh. That 350 you are talking about happens in 1 game of the series and in our first test also it happened the same way.

Zimbabwe got test status in 1992 and by 2002 they actually had started winning series. They won in Pakistan, defeated India at zimbabwe in test series. It is unfortunate that political situation and economics became so worse they had to go off test cricket.

And for us it has been 5 years and people still talk on ifs and buts. The only difference between Ire, Afg, Can, Ken, Scot or Neth and us is those poor fellow are not lucky enuf to get exposure. Just give them even half the exposure we get and you will see then thrashing us left and right. That is what many commentators also had to say on Ire & Neth and many experts shout for Afg.

We dont deserve test status. Pak and Ind got us test status to increase one vote. Just let Afghans develop and then both Ire and Afghan will get test status. Then also we will see the ranking. We will still be numero uno from bottom.

My father is a Bangladeshi but as he has been working with UN whole my life I have stayed in Africa. My family is a great supporter of the Tigers. I have no hate for the team, but I have a complete different perspective from the various guys here who are Banglamediawashed as I put it. The appetite for taking criticism runs really low out here and is given out as Hate. Very strange.

Here's what a famous author said in one of his books-don't recall the name right now-to naysayers who keep asking questions like what's the point of this and and what's the point of that?...in the long run we're all gonna be dead, right? so what's the point of doing anything at all?...
now I wonder since you know with certainty you're going to be buried one day, have you started digging your grave already?
