Default FIFA Ranking July 2008

SAARC COUNTRIES
------------------------
India 153
Maldives 156
Sri Lanka 161
Pakistan 169
Nepal 177
Afghanistan 181
Bangladesh 182
Bhutan 190

Now the reality is there for u to see. Bangla is the second lowest ranked country in the region. Only Bhutan is ranked below us. We may joke or laugh. Guys pls open up your eyes. The ranking is not based on population or pride. Its based on RESULTS. We may remember the days when our team was able to beat Maldives 8-0. Thats all history now. Guys, do u remember the days when England was able to beat France 18-0? When Portugal was able to beat Brazil 12-0? Those are also part of history now. Can we beat Maldives by 8 goals to nill now? In your right mind u will say no. We won 2003 SAFF cup by beating Maldives on Penalties. We were not able to beat them in open play for 120 minutes. That was in Dhaka in front of us. Not in their country. So whats the point of remembering a distant memory now? C'mon guys! Lets work hard to catch those who are above now. Thats not an impossible thing to do.

According to FIFA site,
India remained where they were at 153.
Maldives moved up three places. Even before SAFF cup they were second in the region.
Sri Lanka moved up one place.
Pakistan is nine place down.
Nepal is one place up.
Afghanistan is one place up.
Bangla is one place up. I dont know why
Bhutan is six places up. They made most gains

We are one place up even after going down so badly in the SAFF Cup?
...wow....

wonder how many places we'd be leaping and frogging IF we won the cup...

....well, not much, says the left part of my brain...

Even Pakistan and Nepal are ahead of us !!! What a joke....When will the Govt do something about our football....Given proper exposure to international football..and if everything is nurtured properly we should be on par with India as the top South Asian side...
