What was Barnes a specialist at? And what was the highest level he played at?
And why does Bangladesh always hire these assistant coaches of other teams!?

Our BCB el-presidente has this fetish to name names before anything is fixed

Barnes was specialist at bowling. He played just first class level because during his career SA banned for 22 years from international cricket.

I doubt Sri Lanka will hire Stuart Law for the job. I am pretty sure they have an IPL coach in mind. A lot of people here wanted Moody back. Darren Lehmann is another option

Well he was in the running for head coach several times, so surely he must have beenn a good candidate and had the required qualitieis to be a good coach.i dont think he has leadership or visionary problems....he surely was expecting that role given that in the interview its mentioned that he also helped sa's journey into winning series abroad...Insha'Allah he will turn out to be better than what i am expecting

BCB likely to finalise coach's name today
Dhaka, June 3: Finalising the coach for Bangladesh national team would be the main agenda when Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will hold a meeting on Saturday.
The coach issue has been the talk of the town over the last several days once the BCB president AHM Mustafa Kamal, MP, disclosed South African assistant coach Vincent Barnes name as probable coach. He however did not rule out the name of Stuart Law, an Australian coach whom the president earmarked as the number one choice of BCB. But the fact is that the BCB boss earlier dismissed any Australian's chance to be the coach of Bangladesh team this time around which firmly established that Barnes could be the next coach of Shakib Al Hasan and co.
Kamal expected that they would take a decision about coach on Saturday meeting.
However things got complicated when Barnes denied any talk to BCB had come an advance stage apart from being just approached.
“I've been approached by the BCB and that's where it ended,” all that Barnes told the renowned cricket website Cricinfo. As Stuart Law gave some conditions including to give him an opportunity to coach any IPL teams for two months, the BCB was reluctant about him but sources said that Law softened his previous stance. So Law is in the contention again.
However it won't be an easy task for BCB to reach a concrete decision regarding the coach issue on Saturday's meeting, doubted some directors.
Moreover the board would have to discuss with other issues like financial matter of the ICC Cricket World Cup and Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The BCB is trying to go ahead with the BPL in order to bring up a revolution in domestic cricket. Over the last several months the tournament committee put good effort to make it an innovative tournament and came up with some new ideas. The board however will discuss all the aspects of BPL in the meeting.
Meanwhile, the pre-season conditioning camp will start on Saturday with 30 cricketers at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. The newly appointed selection panel led by Akram Khan selected 32-member for the pre-seasonal camp. But Shakib Al Hasan and Syed Rasel will be absent amongst the 32. Shakib left Dhaka to join his English county club Worcestershire on Saturday morning while Rasel is in now England to play the minor county.
THE INDEPENDENT
What the heck is the point of this meeting? Are they hiring a coach today or are they not? I am confused! Daily Star is saying they won't name a coach today. Now Independent says they could name him today (Saturday) and it's Barnes but Barnes denied any reports. What's going on in Mirpur?? Why are the directors and the President pandering with us. Just come out and said "We have hired Barnes." Or "We won't hire anyone this week." Straight forward!!! Come on NOW!!! Btw, what's the hype about Law!! He's mediocre. He's not even as experienced as an assistant, compared to Barnes. Can anyone please give us the clear inside info as to when they will hire the coach if not today, and if it will happen today who is it really? Law or Barnes. Or is Ford back into the race again?

I think, BCB has already made contract with Barnes and asked him not to disclose anything prior to the official declaration. As everything is finalized, BCB officials are playing with Journalists and fans. Otherwise, how can they suddenly announce Head Coach out of blue in couple of days ? So, relax and do not let your blood pressure go up !

Much-hyped BCB meeting today
The much-talked about Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) executive committee meeting will be held today at its office in the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
Everybody is looking forward to this meeting as BCB president AHM Mustafa Kamal informed recently that they were going to take a final decision regarding appointment of the new head coach for the Tigers.
But sources said that the board has yet to reach an advance stage of negotiation with any candidate, rather all the discussion still remains at a preliminary stage and that's why one board director quipped that it would be really a great surprise for everybody if the board can take a final decision regarding appointment of a new coach during today's meeting.
And the fact is that chief executive officer (CEO) Manzur Ahmed, who is in charge of dealing with the matter, will join on June 7.
Kamal on Wednesday told reporters that they were positively considering Vincent Barnes, the assistant coach of the South Africa team as the new national coach and said that negotiations were ongoing with current Sri Lanka interim coach Stuart Law. According to the BCB president, if the Australian accepts their conditions, then the will definitely go for Law. If not, the board will take a final decision on Barnes in today's meeting.
However, in his reaction Barnes said that: "I've been approached [by the BCB] and that's where it ended."
Besides the coach issue, the meeting will also discuss some financial matters, the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and the Nimbus issue.

I think they will take a decision (final unless CEO have any major complain about it) today but will keep it secret. And when the CEO will join on 7th June, they will discuss it again and publish it finally. But I wonder if CEO is in charge of dealing the head coach appointment then why the heck Lota and gang is going to take a decision today! Akjon er kaj a arekjon er naak golano hochche, eta ki professionalism? Things should be clarified. I'm confused.

Return to the fields
Tigers' fitness camp from today
Sports Reporter
A month-long fitness camp for 32 elite cricketers will begin today at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
Headed by trainer Grant Luden, the national players as well as Bangladesh A, GP-BCB Academy and domestic performers will go through a comprehensive workout that will cover all the areas and have new training tests and methods. Also, probably for the first time, it will be screened minutely by Luden who will be armed with monitors showing the players' intensity during the endurance sessions (so that nobody can slack off).
Skipper Shakib Al Hasan, who left the capital to play for Worcestershire, and the injured Mashrafe Bin Mortaza will be the only players not attending the camp while Shafiul Islam, suffering heel calluses, will be out for a while.
The first part of the camp will span 32 days after which the skills will be touched upon when the new coach arrives, presumably by the first week of next month. Fielding too, a discipline that will test agility and reactions will begin at the start of July, four weeks ahead of their departure to Zimbabwe.
"It [the camp] will begin with a fitness test, covering all the bases," said Luden yesterday. "The focus will be on strength, endurance and speed. They will take part in a lot of running and build strength through gym sessions."
Luden has been on the job for two and a half years and admittedly, this is a first such camp for him. "The reason for doing this camp is that I have never undertaken a proper pre-season fitness camp. It has always been maintenance work. I think it will prepare them in the best possible way," he added.
The Akram Khan-led selection committee has included a host of faces who are making a comeback into the national setup after a few years. Left-handed batsman Nasiruddin Faruque is one of those, and the National Cricket League's highest scorer is excited to be in such a camp after two years.
"Since my stint with the A team and the Academy, I'm returning after two years so I'm excited," said Faruque. "I want to continue how I started the year and since this is a fitness camp, I would focus on that aspect."
Faruque was frank to admit that it is hard to do all the fitness work on his own and one can't blame him. Outside the national setups, hardly any cricketer can avail such facilities. "There is guidance and the camp is usually very compact. When I am on my own, I do as much as I can. I can't do it on my own, I must be honest with you," he said.
Noor Hossain, Elias Sunny, Saqlain Sajib, Robiul Islam, Shubhashish Roy, Syed Rasel and Nadif Chowdhury are some of those who would benefit from this long camp as they are more likely to be considered for the A team. Luden feels that the addition of the new players will be beneficial to both sets. "I always encourage anyone new by telling them to enjoy the experience of training and sharing the dressing room with the national players," said the South African.
"They can find out their shortcomings in fitness and what they need to become international players. Apart from that, some of the veterans in the camp would be pushed by the youngsters. I think that will have a positive impact," explained Luden.

So far I've read and heard, no decision about new coach is made from today's meeting. If anyone have any update news about today's meeting (particularly the coach issue) please share. I think we gotta wait till CEO comes back.

If you are going to dump someone, dump them. But do it for a reason, with a replacement lined up - anything else just makes you look unprofessional.

That means that made the contract on paper and discussed it with the directors and members ofthe board. So right now, I think it's almost done. (from what I understood by the second statement, Law is possibly backing out of the job offer and not agreeing on the contract terms). Barnes is THE GUY. Maybe named on Tuesday and Wednesday when CEO Manzoor Ahmed flies back to Dhaka. That's my interpretation.

Saw the news in TV. The so called BCB meeting looks to me that bunch of guys with no or minimum cricketing knowledge sat and wasted hours on talking issues which are important for their personal gain. And at the end of the meeting same old news "meeting ended without any conclusive decision".
Later Lota talked some rubbish... Don't try to find any meaning out of his words. They might have fixed VB already just posing oh! It's a secret can't tell you guys.
