They should try and play for a draw, but they will probably do the opposite and try and chase it down and in the process will get all out for like 280

According to BDNEWS24.com, Naeems says that they are going to play to win the match!!! I like the spirit but 90 overs of bowling with 7 wickets remaining, of which 3 are pure bowlers, leaves 4 wickets in hand. Even if Bangladesh was chasing 270 runs, survivings 90 overs with 4 wickets isnt that easy and will test the real skill of both team.
However, If and when we lose, it will be due to our batters not applying the skills or patiences on a flat batting track, it wont be due to WIs superb and unplayable deliveries...And if we are able to draw this match, it will be due to some basic skills being applied with patience.. Mirpur wicket has nothing for anyone.. it only tests patience of the player!!

If we go for chase then RR is 3.82
Now, even if we go for win, I don't think TI and Mushy will start slogging from the first ball. First priority is to keep wickets. In the 1st session, I am predicting they would not score more than 90.
That leaves 250+ in 60 overs. RR is 4.25. That is very hard to do in tests.
All these scenarios are with the consideration that we don't lose wickets.

what is most likely to happen? we will score another 200 or so runs and bat almost till tea before we lose the game. even this will take quite a performance and will buck our batting trend in teh 4th innings. our hope in extending this game lies with Tamim, Mushfiq and Shakib. If two of them go in the first session, we might fold quite meekly.

critical part of this game will be how they handle the overs before lunch. They simply cant afford to lose any wicket before lunch. After lunch they can give it a go. But again its very very risky.
Just try to save this game please. Hang in there till the 90th over.

realistically we can not win or draw this match,so I'd like to see every batsman stretch their innings, get some good runs under their belts, make it hard for WI.

The thing is, if we do manage to bat out the 90 overs, we'll win. Now batting out those 90 overs with our boys...

Even if we bat 90 overs, we might not win. Required RR is 3.82 for 90 overs. Very few sides can score that much for 90 overs with this RR.

I am a great believer in the statistics and history of the game. This is Test Match # 2012 [ not year ]. The highest 4th innings total to win a match is West Indies gainst Australia 418/7 in 2003. Apart from that there have been only 3 successful 4th innings run chase of more than 400 runs.
Apart from the "timeless" test match which was abondoned with England on 654/5 at Durban , 1939 [ to catch a ship ], the highest 4th innings score to save a test match is 429/8 by India against England at the Oval, 1979. Gavaskar scored 221.
Bangladesh has a good 4th innings score, 413 against Sri Lanka at Dhaka, 2008 albeit in a lost cause.
In all these marathon innings', one or two batsmen scored heavily. Frankly, it has to be between Tamim, Mushfiq and Shakib. Becuase Tamim is already 86 not out, he should score something like 200 with one of the other two scoring a 100. It is not impossible but highly unlikely.
If a draw is to be achieved, I really feel that we should not have lost more than 5 wickets by tea time. The ball will turn and it would not be easy for our late order batsmen to negotiate Bishoo on a wearing pitch.
The good news is the pitch is still relatively easy and Bishoo is inexperienced. If we are indeed, say, 340 / 5 at tea, it is West Indies who will be under pressure to grab the remaining wickets.
But we have to survive the early overs tomorrow morning. The new ball is a long way off - another 33 overs. So Fidel will have a go for about 4 overs in the morning and then just after lunch if the match is still on. Those are the two crucial moments. Of course, anyone can take wickets but he looks like the main threat. However, first we need to negotiate to lunch hopefully with both Tamim and Mushfiq still there.
I am not hopeful !

Sorry, they cannot give it a go even with 5 overs remaining. Bangladesh have folded up in fewer overs before. If Bangladesh survives tomorrow, I predict our score will be around 400/7. Very unlikely.
No side has ever scored more than 418 in the 4th innings AND have won a test match.

Few teams scored more than 418 but those are drawn test matches.

I was making this comment based on Nayem's desire to win this match. Please read post 2025 and you'll get my standpoint.

Forget the 514 target in 4th innings and what history says. History also said that 400 runs cant be scored in one day international and canot be chased.. Make it simple and think of it as it is...
You have 90 overs and 7 wickets to score 340 runs or
You have 7 wickets to take in 90 overs or
You survive 90 overs with all the 7 wickets
