Z's slip catching alone should get him into our test lineup...he takes em off pacers and spinners alike. he is really as good a slip fielder as anyone in world cricket. sure he'll drop some but...

Ashraful opening the innings will be a disaster for us. He was a flop in that position before. He is a number 4 Batsman. Thats where he averages more and looks more comfortable and NATURAL.

You have your most composed and technically correct Batsman at Number 3 .I see Rakibul or Mushfique in that Position.

Zunaed missed great opportunity to make a comeback. he got a lot of matches in his last tour to England and Ireland. Sooner or later he will comeback. as long as we don't get 2 decent openers, our selectors and coach will continue experiments.

Didn't they try asraful as a opener in last champions trophy?

when he started his career he use to open for the the youth teams

Only time will tell whether he can succeed there. Personally, I think that given a bit of luck, he may succeed there. His shots are usually lofted, that clears the inner circle. If he can continue to do that without getting caught, there's a chance.

Now it looks there is a huge chance that Ashraful will partner Tamim in the opening slot as SN opted out from the tour down under due his academic commitments. But if Mehrab and Nazim can prove themselves in the practice matches then chances of Ashraful opening will be slim.

If there was Mushy instead of Dhiman in the squad then i would have completely agree with you in trying Mushy as the 2nd opener. But in Dhiman's case there is no way he can be put up the order. He is a pinch hitter batsman who can score freely in the slog overs and he showed that pretty well in England with the A team.

Certainly a possibility. I would actually try it in some of the practice games ( five games )given the situation we are in finding a partner for Tamim. But I doubt that they will do it. It goes without saying what type of benefit a hard hitting wkt keepr/opener brings to the team. It frees up a genuine spot for an extra player in the lower middle order. But, we shouldn't do it just for the sake of it, and only should go ahead with it, if we have enough faith in the keepers batting ability.

Too much experiments with Ash. He should be left alone in a slot and continue doing his job consistently. Such frequent adjustment is making him more and more confused about his role.

Ash won't open. He will come at #3. Bd will miss SN. His bottom handed batting would have been effective in the bouncey pitches of Australia. I am glad to some of Bd players realizing the need for education and completing their degrees.
I feel for Aftab. With Rakib, Sakib and Alok performing well with the bat, it will be extremely hard for him to get back into the side.

Well, if the futile search for the other opener continue even after the Aussie series, I won't be surprised if Aftab stakes a claim as an opener in the one day version. He is too valuable to be ignored in ODI's.

his value extends to fielding in the point/cover region as well...he's taken more catches there than anyone else we have.

Sure Asad. Add to that, a few handy overs in favorable conditions if required. What can't be substituted is his positive intent while batting. I know he has been guilty of excessive transgressions at times, but, it wasn't entirely his own fault, as the Whatmore gang wanted him more as a pinch hitter at no.3, then as a genuine no.3. I guess, he did what he was asked to do, which set him back a lot as a batsman. He still is one of the most talented, natural, hitter of the ball that we ever produced. I dearly want him to mature and claim his spot in the national team.

Let Ash and Tamim open, the rest usually get replaced as if there in an Assembly line

so....lineup?

Tamim
Dhiman
Ashraful
Sakibul
Rakibul
Alok
Mahmudullah
Farhad
Razzak
Mortaza
Nazmul

is it a gamble to try Dhiman as an opener? i do not seriously want to see Ashraful opening and failing, it will demoralize our lineup as per tradition, when Ashraful plas well everybody feels spirited and thus increases chances of success or even victory!

i think that's the lineup we will probably end up with...
