BCB to focus on injury prevention
SPORTS REPORTER

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan Papon has vowed to find a solution to the recent spate of injuries that forced selectors to make last minute shuffles to the Bangladesh team for the tour of Sri Lanka.

Speaking after a board meeting at the BCB headquarters in Mirpur, Papon promised to tackle this emerging problem.

I have come to know that many players don’t want to play longer version cricket, citing injury or lack of fitness. But then those very players are seen playing the shorter version of the game,” said Papon at the press conference following the board meeting.

“There are many players who hide their injuries, and others who play against the advice of the sports physicians. This practice will not work. We will make a clear cut policy about this,” he added saying that he would speak to the medical staff to arrest this problem.

Sometimes players are permitted to bowl just four overs in a game by doctors. These kinds of things create confusion. In my opinion, if a player is injured then he should not be permitted to play without recovering completely,” said Papon.

He added that conflicting advice like this also meant that players only signed up to play the shortest version of the game.

“Since in this case there is a possibility for the players to play in tournaments where there is only monetary benefit. This can never be good for our cricket,” said Papon.

The injury curse has affected Bangladesh deeply ahead of the start of the Sri Lanka tour. Naeem Islam, Enamul Haque Jnr and Shahriar Nafees all recently were withdrawn due to various injuries. All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was excluded due to an operation on his right leg while Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Tamim Iqbal are still in the process of recovering from injuries.
