Default Match Thread:Bangladesh v New Zealand 1st Test

The first test between Bangladesh and New Zealand is being played from the 19th of October to the 23rd at Dhaka. The Bangladesh side looks to be without their Captain Habibul Bashar and their Vice Captain Rajin Saleh has also fallen ill. Teenage prodigy Nazmul Hossain will not play because of Dengue fever. Hope fully Nazmul will recover from this intime for the next series. Weather looks to be fine for the next 4 days in Dhaka according to Yahoo weather. So lets hope for a good game.

Most of us will be tuning in to:Cricinfo

The game will be played at the BNS stadium in Dhaka. The Bangladesh side will be named as late as possible to allow Habibul Bashar and Rajin Saleh to try and recover from their respective injuries. GO Bangladesh Go

many of the bd supporters are in very depressed mood as they still keep the memories of asia cup and champions trophy in their mind. there was a chance to refresh their mind in the warm-up match, but that also ended in a very depressive feeling. there was nothing to boast from the warm-up match, look at the following realities:

1) NZ batsmen scored easily (bd bowlers to work hard)
2) NZ strategy was to attack, dominate and demoralise bowlers (bd management should think for counter plan)
3) Their spinners did good (may they find good form which will trouble bd batting ofcourse)
4) Hannan and Ashrafuul failed to keep the momentum, after getting settled (the real worry of bd batting, one should try to play longer innings in test)
5) Nafees and Aftab failed miserably (new comers are not making much impressive performance)
6) Kapali failed again (nobody will get much support from a board, still he is not clicking)
7) Kapali's captiancy is not much impressive (at least one point to mention from lot of that he never thought to give more chances to selected players to bowl more and earn some match practice. instead of this, he opted to give bowling everyone of the team)
8) bowlers have not shown fighting display (need to strenghten bowling department is also very much necessary now)
9) Diman Ghosh missed-out his best opportunity (Piolot may have to replace within 2/3 years as he is getting old)
10) The only glimpse is Shamsur Rahman .............

apart from that now the news is that:

bashar, rajin and nazmul may miss first test
razzak is not yet cleared
many others are still not recovered from injury

and more......

Zimbabway will not play test with BD (the best opportunity slipped-out)
Srilanka resheduled their visit early

Over and above the n-tier system is whispering all around the corner

so this is a do-or-die situation to bangla cricket. the board is realised the situation and already warned publicaly... so , they must, must, must overcome this depressive mood and go for a good fight (dont mind wins, only decent fight is good enough)

I think "keeping the selected bowlers away from the Kiwi batters in the practice match (2nd innings)" is a very smart move by Kapali. Kiwi batters should not get the taste of what they will be getting in the test matches. This is a very common practice. Less bowling by spinners in the practice match was not bad idea either!

Basher is not playing for sure. Whether Rajin is playing or not is not a big deal. He is a 20-40 batsmen (at this moment at least).

Make no mistake, regardless of what the media writes, the selectors will play Bashar if he is fit as late as just before the toss.

Default Victory in Bangladesh will help us: Fleming

Reuters
Dhaka, October 18

New Zealand's Test series against Bangladesh will be an ideal opportunity for players to regain their confidence before they tour Australia, captain Stephen Fleming said on Monday.

New Zealand were beaten 3-0 by England in a series earlier this year and embark on a tour of Australia next month after their Test and one-day series against Bangladesh, which begins on Tuesday with the first Test.

Bangladesh have lost 27 of their 30 Test matches and lost their only two to New Zealand by an innings.

"It may be a great chance to get back in winning track playing in Bangladesh, we played our last couple of Test matches (against England) poorly," said Fleming on Monday.

"We are not in a position to take any Test lightly.

"(But) we think a series victory here will develop an atmosphere for our Australia tour."

Fleming will return to New Zealand after the two-match Test series, with left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori captaining the side for the three-match one-day series.

Bangladesh, meanwhile, could be without skipper Habibul Bashar for the first time in their short Test history.

Bashar, who is also Bangladesh's leading batsman having scored more than 2000 runs at an average of 35.84, is still recovering from finger surgery.

The selectors said they had asked former captain Khaled Mashud to be prepared to lead the side in Dhaka on Tuesday.

Afterall, they are consolidating the batting by taking six batsman, may be rana is considered to be the second best spinner we have.

If any of these 6 batsmen score less than 20-30 then they must be whipped.

Rana is the second best spinner available. Raj has been excluded for obvious reasons and Enam is suffering from the knee injury. I think, they have made the correct decison to include six batsmen, if the source is correct and easily the best possible team given the fact that Shumon is not available for the match. Good luck to us...

Ehsan, you give the batsmen too much credit. Its more like -

If none of these 6 batsmen score more than 20-30 then they all must be whipped.

damn, the team looks terrible. i agree that any better combination was not possible. but..... lets put it this way. this is the best team available and this is a terrible team.

hagu sharkar= first ball duck
javed=resistance but no big score. score will varry from 30~60.
nafis = just bring in a spinner, the over will look like 4 4 6 W, end of nafis
rajin= might do his usual 30s but won't because of his fever. say 10~25
asharaful = only hope
alok = infinite badpatch. 3~7 runs will come from his bat.
masud= lower order resistance but with captency that will be diducted as well.
rana= former fighter. terrible current form will score 0~4
rafique= will savore the century and hit duck, but can't complain he's a bowler.
taposh= 3~20 runs
tareq = 3* (will stay not out. may be we should open with him).

RESULT: get ready for yet another humiliation.

The lineup looks good on paper! Lets see if there is any substance... the batsmen's performance will be under the microscope in this test.

Fleming told the New Zealand Press Association. "The first three days are status quo. Play good percentage cricket, build up some runs on the board and then we can take it to them. It's a simple game plan, but the key thing is not getting impatient, and giving them respect."

man do we not have any other pacers other than tareq...is this tareq's maiden test...lets see how he does, may allah help him. we need wickets, if any bowler can take 4 or 5 wickets i would happily let them give up 4 runs per over.
