BDFlag Ian Pont applied to coach Tigers :)

Quote:
Former bowling coach of Bangladesh national cricket team Ian Pont is among the several applicants for the post of the head coach, a Bangladesh Cricket Board official said on Tuesday.

Pont had been the bowling coach of Tigers for six months until the last World Cup. He left Bangladesh after the board refused to extend his contract at the end of the tournament.

The position for the head also fell vacant after Australia Jamie Siddons had failed to win an extension to his contract following a low-key World Cup campaign.

The cricket board already published advertisements in local newspapers and put them on ICC and Asian Cricket Council web sites seeking the head coach, the bowling coach and the fielding coach.

Submission of application closes on May 15.

Mazur Ahmed, the chief executive officer of the cricket board, said that they had already received several applications from candidates who include Pont. The Englishman, however, was not interested for the position he had previously held.

‘Yes, he is interested to become the head coach, not the bowling coach,’ Manzur said.

‘We also received a few other applications but I cannot give you any details at the moment,’ he said.

Jalal Yunus, the chairman of board’s media committee, said that they would not completely rely on applications received from advertisement and would try personally to ensure a good coach for Tigers.

‘It will not be very easy to get a good coach. The Indian Premier League is going on at the moment and most of the good coaches are now busy with it. We will try to talk personally with some of them to see if they are interested about our coaching job,’ he said.

Tom Moody, a former Sri Lankan coach, was the one Jalal mentioned specifically. ‘We need someone who can rectify our technical faults as we are a developing cricket nation.’

‘We do not need someone who can only motivate. We need a coach who has sound knowledge of technical issues. I am sure we will get a coach who will understand our needs,’ he said.

Merge Whatmore and JS together.

In all seriousness, I am in for Tom Moody, no disrespect to Ian Pont.

Any of Tom Moody, Ian Pont and Kepler Wessels would be great, lets hope for the best.

I am not sure if BCB will accept him as Head coach. BCB probably didnt like it when he left the Bowling coach position...But this is about our national interest. Personal grudge should not be a thing to worry...

You know that Bashar was about to take that level-2 course for coaching... What happens now that he's a selector? Has he scrapped the idea? And Simon bhai, I think Ian is a blessing in disguise ? And who's wessels?

Anyone who watched Kepler bat would admit that he was one of the most defensive batsmen of the modern era. He hardly used to attack. I dont really support his batting philosophy...

maybe Moody (or anyone else) would be better than Pont. But we know Pont. We know his passion. We have heard his views and his plan. We might not always agree, but we know the guy knows his cricket and loves our boys. I think its a no-brainer.

A Great news indeed.

Thumb up who thinks WE, passionate BC members made him to apply for this post !

However, one disadvantage of Ian is that he was never a head coach of any International team whereas Tom Moody was Head coach of National Team.

But, personally i would go for Ian as he was here for quite a time and knows the players and system very well. He can start working from the word go.

GO IAN GO !!!

^ What's wrong with "Pont"? Calling someone by last name is not disrespectful, it's the opposite.

Anywho, as much as I'd would like us to play with 3 pacers, become more fast bowling friendly nation like rest of the world, and not stack the team with crappers spinners, I just think Moody looks better and step ahead for the job. Just IMO.

When you refer anyone by his surname, its normal courtesy that you add "MR./MRS" ! If you do not know them very well or at all, always use the highest level of formality Mr., Mrs., Ms., Dr., etc. to start.

Doesnt harm to be modest, does it ?
