Default What would your XI be in T20Is for Bangladesh?

Hello BCers! Feels good to be back after a pretty long time.

So, it goes without saying that Bangladesh are yet to find an ideal combination of players in the shortest format of the game. While, the lack of very good players in the pipeline is a matter of concern, the team should still be able to perform decently if the correct combination can be found out.

So, out of curiousity, what is your ideal T20I XI for Bangladesh?

For me, the team would look like this:
1. Tamim Iqbal
2. Soumya Sarkar
3. Shakib Al Hasan (c)
4. Mushfiqur Rahim (wk)
5. Mahmudullah Riyad
6. Shabbir Rahman [Floater]
7. Afif Hossain
8. Mohammad Saifuddin
9. Nazmul Islam Apu
10. Mustafizur Rahman
11. Rubel Hossain/ 12. Abu Jayed Rahi
...
Bench:
13. Mehedi Hasan Miraz
14. Ariful Haque

For me, the primary concern is the bowling line up. In the last few matches, we did not have enough bowlers who could be trusted to finish their quota of 4 overs.

With this team, I'd rely on Mustafiz, Shakib and Apu to finish their quota of 4 each. The rest of the 8 overs (In idealistic scenarios) can be shared between Saifuddin, Rubel(For death overs), Afif(I still rate him very highly) and Mahmudullah.

When the roles are defined, I feel the players will perform better. So, for example, Saifuddin can work on his variations if that's what is needed of him in the middle overs. Rubel has found a liking to finishing the innings with the ball in the shorter formats, so letting him focus on that. Tamim with the bat can take some time right at the start and then go for the kill, which seems to suit him more in shorter formats.

We are still a team that would rather chase totals that are below 170. So, we need to focus more in keeping things tight with the ball if we are to win matches in T20Is.

Although everything would vary from pitch to pitch, I feel, with the recent T20I series, we were all over the place because there was too much experimentation with the team.

As of now, our resources for T20Is is very limited. But we still have experience to back us up. In the meantime, we can work on ensuring we have a much better pipeline for the future.

So, what's your ideal team?

1. Tamim Iqbal
2. Soumya Sarkar
3. Shakib Al Hasan (c)
4. Mushfiqur Rahim (wk)
5. Mahmudullah Riyad
6. Shabbir Rahman [Floater]
7.
8.
9.
10. Mustafizur Rahman
11.

Not sure about 7-8-9. At seven we need a dependable hitter -may be Mosaddek. And at 8-9, need two good spinners.

Mash was forced to retired, but since we have no genius from pipeline, he could be no 9.

In No 11, I am in favor giving Syed Rasel a chance.

Hard to fill eleven players with current state of performance.

But Nazmul Hossain could be a valuable addition as second spinner. Possibly only find of the T20 matches for BD.

@Roey Haque without looking it up, please guess Kayes' average in T20 internationals.

IMO Mahmudullah has to be prepared to bowl 4 overs. There's no other way to balance the team

If we can afford guys like mushy and sabbir in the xi why not someone like Shamsur Rahman? Has the hitting ability, likes to be aggressive, he’s a bit more consistent now than when he got his go in international cricket, seems to of matured a bit.

Saifuddin has to work on his bowling, not good enough atm to keep getting picked, can live with him being a bit hit and miss with the bat but his bowling is important to the team.

Mosa not a big enough hitter for t20s, he’d need to bat at 3.

Zakir a good prospect, hider needs to be given chances, think afif should be persisted with.

Soumya is good for t20s, don’t want liton anywhere near the t20 team atm, he’s such a huge prospect for tests and ODIs but he’s not ready for t20s and don’t want him ruined.

Anamul should at least be in the squad.

Batsmen: anamul, soumya, zakir, shamsur, riyad, afif, ariful, riyad, sabbir, maybe mehedi maruf. Mosa considered only for number 3 spot.

Bowlers: fizz, miraz, shakib, hider. Honestly not a lot of bowling options, saifuddin needs to do better with ball, it’d really help the team to have. A bowler with his batting potential.

I’m keeping an eye on azmir Ahmed, he’s supposed to be a big hitter, get some chances in BD u23 team a coupe of years ago.

I'll take a guess and say, 8.64?

Why are you guys wanting Mosa at number 3, hasn't had any performances of note, but he is definitely better than Saaaaabir

Imrul will perform better without the nasty Mushfiqur breathing down his neck, trust me.

He is a powerful six hitter. We only have few powerful guys, Tamim, Imrul, Soumya, Sabbir, Mash, Saifuddin. The rest lose their shape when hitting sixes, cannot hold their form.

Ideally we don’t need sabbir or mosa but the situation at current is that we might need them, plenty of others to give chances to first though.

Doesn't really matter. It still won't be good enough to beat the top 8 sides.
