Date: 31 August 2008
Darwin, Australia
Media Release

Injury to Roqibul Hassan

Bangladesh batsman Roqibul Hassan has a fractured right thumb. He received the injury when he was struck on the gloves while getting out to pace bowler Brett Geeves during the Commonwealth Bank Series first ODI against Australia at the TIO Stadium on Saturday.

Roqibul was seen by a doctor on Saturday afternoon and had his X-ray done today (Sunday) morning. The X-ray has revealed a comminuted fracture. The batsman will be examined by an orthopedic surgeon tomorrow morning before a decision is made on his condition.

Naeem Islam could be included in the team now.
More experienced players such as Bashar, Aftab might be useful, but none of them are in the stand by list.

If it's fractured I doubt he'll play any more games at all in this series. Darn, I was really hoping he could make a name for himself this tour. Is Aftab ready yet?

they way we are dropping, BCB and Bangladesh gov should re-make our national animal into the fly rather than a "tiger".

This is really very very unlucky, when a team is struggling in so other way and here comes the injury problem to make matter worse. We also currently don't have any suitable replacement and I think by no means we can afford to have a rookie in the middle of the series against a team like Australia. I know Naeem would have been a good choice but playing in Australia in the middle of the series without any sort of practice and then again when the team is in such a bad shape is really a bit too much to ask for. Therefore a possible option would be to bring back Aftab and try him as a opening partner for Tamim but the question remains ''is he totally fit by now?". If Aftab is also not available then we have no choice but to call our HaBa and make him play his last few ODI's in the Australian soil.

bad news. I don't see any point calling any one from home. Replace can be made within the team. May be Junaed would replace him.

it's supposedly a comminuted fracture, can anyone say ouch?

comminuted fracture: "A fracture in which the bone has several lines of fracture in the same region; a fracture in which the bone is crushed and splintered." answers.com

yeah, doesn't really sound like raqibul is going to be able to play.
