Default Bengali sentenced to death in China for trying to smuggle methamphetamine to Australia

A young Australian man has been sentenced to death and another is awaiting trial after being caught by Chinese authorities trying to smuggle methamphetamine from China to Australia.

Queensland man Ibrahim Jalloh and another Australian citizen, Bengali Sherrif, were arrested by the Chinese authorities at Guangzhou airport in June last year, but until now their plight has remained secret.

The ABC understands Sherrif was sentenced to death for attempting to traffic the drug, which is used to make ice, but this will be commuted to life in prison if his behaviour in prison is good for two years. Jalloh has apparently not been tried yet.

The two men are among a number of Australians arrested and held in China over drug-related crimes, but precise details about the prisoners are difficult to come by.

Good for them. When greed trumps common sense, they deserve to get what was waiting. China, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Japan, etc never made it a secret what their laws are against drug traffickers. So if an idiot does his thing and gets caught, he had it coming.

Ibrahim - what a noble name his parents kept. I bet he was nurtured cherished like an angel when he was a baby. They had no idea what would he become after his adulthood.

Bengali Sherrif could be from anywhere in South Asia...may not necessarily be a Bangladeshi

Regardless of one's stance to the "ethical nature" of the matter, it IS a draconian stance and that is exactly what it is.

I think you need to re-think about things that deserve the death penalty.

did his actions directly cost other lives?

If he is smuggling it for personal use, I don't think he should even be jailed.
If he is smuggling to sell it for a profit, who is he selling it to, is he selling with his morals intact, he is just a businessman. It gets to a crime worthy of severe punishment when his actions directly harm others.. For example, if he is in a group of smuggler who is involved in violence - killing, rape etc.. So many variable.

Don't jump to opinions....

The way you view drug dealers, many ppl view muslims similarly... scums
