Good one! But Laurie Doherty had won 5 consecutive wimbledon titles also. But none of them are the consecutive wimbledon title leaders. William Renshaw won 6 in a row.

Not really, he fought against Fraizer. Many other fighters knocked out others in a heavy weight title fight. How can this be an untouchable record?

Great rower. 5 gold in 5 different Olmpics is unbelievable. However, he performed in team events and his golds were in different disciplines. 4 men team, 2, 2, ,2, 4.

Cats_Eye,
jayed missed on the stats (read my previous post). Ali won against Foreman in "Rumble in the Jungle" (brilliantly depicted in "When we were Kings") and beat Frazier in "Thrilla in Manilla", those two would go in any top 5 boxing match in history. Muhammad Ali is the only boxer to come back and win the World Championship twice after losing it. I think he also is the only boxer to have defended title 7 times in a 1 year period (compared to a typical 1 or 2 times a year).

Someone mentioned knocking out Liston. Ali did it so fast initially ppl thought Liston faked it, but later careful review of replay showed he was just way too fast! There is a scene in the movie "Ali" where Will Smith as Mohammed Ali is beating up on one of the great boxers (his former idol Floyd Patterson I think) and shouting "what's my name m****r" because Floyd refused to call Ali by his muslim name. This was a true incident and I think rare in world championship match that a boxer has the ability to simply taunt and bang up the other boxer that easily. Ali hammered and bludgoned him for 12 rounds before referee stopped the match.

Also I think Ali's political fight against the U.S. government at the same time when he was defending his world championship in the ring so many times was unique not just in boxing but in any sports.

There is no doubt that Ali is the greatest boxer ever.

I would dispute that. Cause I think Holyfield did the same. Will verify for sure. Foreman may have come close also.

Now that I can not argue with. I did not know that. Once I verify the stat I will put it up there.

If you can verify that the bout did not last longer than some of Tyson's bout I would put it up there too.

I didn't mean in time. Ali had beaten other contenders much quicker than he did Floyd Patterson including 1st round knockouts (although I think Tyson has the most quickest K.O.s). This one lasted 12 rounds but he kept openly mocking the contender while beating him mercilessly. And I think before the fight he also declared to the reporters that he will beat Floyd so bad for insulting his muslim name like nothing before. And obviously relished doing it so publicly for 12 rounds until referee stopped the match and declared him a winner. Haven't heard of a comparable championship match.

He also may have played the most number of world championship fights (from 1964 to 1981 I think), but I could be wrong.
