\'Make or break\' home season: Ali Asghar
'Make or break' home season for Bangladesh
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Ali Asghar has warned that the coming home series' against New Zealand, India and Zimbabwe will be acid tests for the Tigers.
Asghar expressed his views at a meeting where chief selector Faruque Ahmed, coach Dav Whatmore, team operations manager MA Latif Khan, BCB advisor and media committee chairman Reazuddin Al Mamun, captain Habibul Bashar and his deputy Rajin Saleh were present.
"The team's think-tank was told that it was time to give back something to the nation especially since there is a negative campaign going on against Bangladesh internationally. The meeting was arranged to make them realise the seriousness of the situation and how significant the home season is for the team," said Mamun over telephone after the meeting.
Mamun also revealed that coach Dav Whatmore sought some more time for making a mark in international level.
"We identified ODI tournaments as our main problem area and the team management was asked to sort out why we there has been collapses," said Mamun who added that the Board was satisfied with Whatmore's explanation for the failures.
Mamun also disclosed that Saleh, who had led the team in the recently concluded ICC Champions Trophy in England in absence of the injured Bashar, had told the meeting that he found commitment missing in his batsmen during the tournament.

Dissapointing to seee the commitment missing during the CT. Maybe Bashar is the link to a great series. I hope so. Might just be a coincidence that he is Bangladesh's best ever batsmen as well.

well I am glad Lobi has spelt it out for the team. I am confident the team will respond with all their might and all their heart. They hopefully realise that their own livelihood is also on the line. If nothing else that should motivate them! The practise match should give us a good indication about the fight that our boys will be ready to put up.

I appreciate the time chosen for this "do or die" reaction by the top cricket adminisrtators.
The focus was made on lack of commitment, what is really true.
Hopefully, cricketers will play cricket this time keeping in mind their commitments to the nation and nation's expectation from them.

Hope it does'nt backfire. I don't mind behind the scenes talk to the boys but all these statement in front of the press really does not do anything. BCB always be behind the players. lack of commitment should have been tackled earlier instaed of a few weeks before the tour. So sorry but I feel it is a knee jerk reaction. I want to see the team back to Dave's original plan that is step by step individual improvements. Home in on the areas where individuals faltered.

Thnx sunil, I hope and pray, that we will never down to that extend. Problem is when an elite cricket nation goes down it is an occurance, but when minnows goes down, it is their performance.

It's a good sign that BCB has arranged such a meeting to find out the
problems and solutions for our poor performance.
But in my opinion, it will not be helpful if the meeting just end as a discussion.
Because the meeting seemed like a discussion and everybody had his own opinion,
which had not come to a conclusion having everyone's agreement
and common understanding ( Players and Management ).
If not, then problems and solutions will mean different to different people
and will be hard to gain any improvement.
I understand that it will be unrealistic to expect the solution and outcome soon,
but there must be some problems and solutions, like concentration, commitment etc.
which could be taken as common understanding and do some home work before coming series.
Otherwise we have to depend on every players individual understanding and action.
Hope there will be more information regarding this article somewhere.

The commitment is clear, clear to everybody, it's clear right from the players to the cheering folk in the stadium.
This meeting was an unscreened communication between the top decision makers and the real performers. So, I believe it was not a meeting to agree with, rather it was a meeting to convey some sort of 'message' to the performers and an assurance to the top administration.

I feel better now. Thank's for making it clear.
So we can expect some outcome in coming series now.

Don't feel so good, we've had our shares in the mud, too.
Against the nation that we're playing just a week from now:
77 all out vs NZ during ICC Champions Trophy 2002 in SL
116 vs NZ during 1999 world cup in ENG
Over 300 runs for NZ against our bowling during 1990 Australasia Cup
Against all other teams:
76 all out vs IND during TVS Cup 2003 in Dhaka BNS
76 all out vs SL during 2002 in SL
The Chaminda Vaas Hat-trick during world cup 2003 in SA
87 all out vs Pakistan during 2000 Asia Cup in Dhaka BNS
NOTE, some of those pretty low scores are scored by us AT OUR OWN HOME GROUND - AT THE BNS.

the interesting part in aus v/s pak match is pakistan failed to score three digit figure in both innings, managed 59 as highest, finished the match within 2 days,
bangladesh never had such a shameful defeat
cool!!!!!!!!

Who is he referring to?
Cannot be Rajin.
Cannot be Bashar, Alok or Hannan as they were not in the team.
Cannot be Aftab or Nafees as they were new members and just joined the team.
Cannot be Rafique, Nazmul, Tapash as they are mainly bowler.
Cannot be Chacha as he may have physical limitation but I doubt he lacks commitment.
That leads to ...

Rajin said it out of inexperience actually..
Even if the captain does feel lack of commitment in his players.. he cant really express that to the press like this.
Rajin, being so young, couldnt really hold his patience I think.. and said something he probably shouldnt have said considering the moral breakdown it might cause for the team.
