His style of batting is completely unsuitable for test at the moment. If he can adjust his game is ok, but he needs a lot of time for that. He should make way for an additional bowler in the side

This is silly. Tamim is clearly a talented player, no other BD palyer has had such a fantastic start to his test career. In ODIs he's second only to ash. I recall nasser hussain enthusing about him in the world cup. High praise indeed...
If it really was just nepotism (uncle akram being selector and all) why is Nafees Iqbal in the team too?

Those who think he is not suitable for test, i would request them to take a look at the following stats.
Batting and fielding averages
| Mat | Inns | NO | Runs | HS | Ave | BF | SR | 100 | 50 | 4s | 6s | Ct | St |
---|
Tests | 3 | 5 | 0 | 154 | 84 | 30.80 | 255 | 60.39 | 0 | 2 | 23 | 1 | 0 | 0 | ODIs | 21 | 21 | 0 | 455 | 54 | 21.66 | 728 | 62.50 | 0 | 3 | 52 | 8 | 9 | 0 | T20Is | 7 | 7 | 0 | 68 | 32 | 9.71 | 94 | 72.34 | 0 | 0 | 9 | 0 | 1 | 0 | First-class | 18 | 31 | 1 | 1237 | 118 | 41.23 | 1808 | 68.41 | 2 | 10 |
|
| 7 | 0 | List A | 29 | 29 | 0 | 711 | 133 | 24.51 | 987 | 72.03 | 1 | 3 |
|
| 14 | 0 | Twenty20 | 7 | 7 | 0 | 68 | 32 | 9.71 | 94 | 72.34 | 0 | 0 | 9 | 0 | 1 | 0 |
If you look at the stats, you will find that he is much better in longer version. He is one of the few batsmen batsmen in Bangladesh who has played more than 15 first class matches and maintaining 40+ average. Also so far his test career is not bad. So I really failed to understand why some people started shouting at him?

hey Can you plz fix your poll question.....its very confusing and the confusion led me to tick on no option which latr on find out was a wrong option for me. i think other ppl who voted for no did the same mistake like me.
Tamim is one of the best batsman in the current squad he deserve his position. if thr is Nafees Iqbal in da squad then u cud hav ask the ques.....

He is out of form because of his injury.
I dont think his uncle has anything to do with his selection. he is still a good opening bat but should sit out the next test match and get in form for the ODIs
|
Jeez, since when did he become his uncle? Must have been in different planet.

Thats no good when you are a opening batsman and facing a brand new ball. It will swing whether he likes it or not. A decent batsman won't have these obvious weakness and what will stop Ntini from bowling in-swinger or yorkers?
No wonder he doesn't last long.

I had serious thoughts about even qualifying a thread as ajaira as this one, but my compulsions are making me do otherwise. Also, khub-i cheitta achhi!
Tamim Iqbal Khan, in terms of just pure hand-eye coordination, is perhaps the most talented batsman we've discovered to date.
And his ability to learn quickly, a HUGE issue plaguing most of our other batters, was nothing short of amazing when we saw him start playing compact, orthodox cricket in the NCL 2007 after that long and ugly run of crackhead batting we know too well. Coach Siddons has faith in him and he gave us a good glimpse of what he can do in New Zealand. IMHO he and Zunaed will be the first two Bangladeshi basmen to average close to 50 during their peak years from the age of 27 until their mid 30s Inshallah.
Why? Because they have better COMBINATION of talent, temperament and the ability to learn quickly and apply themselves in the middle THAN ANY OTHER BANGLADESHI BATSMAN, PAST AND PRESENT!
Like his partner BiZu, he's here because he belongs, period.

He should have been rested for this test match. i hope he pays well in his home ground (2nd test).
But then again it is true that he will most probably be in the squad when he's out of form because his uncle is the selector.
but for now... NO MORE BASHING TAMIM!!! HE is a talented player ! he was star batsmen in NZ ..and he can be star again! just wait for the 2nd test and ODI's!
|
i didn't really try 2 bash him or anything.personally, i think he's THE REAL DEAL.he's just not well right now.but i noticed in a lot of the threads that ppl think he's only on the team cuz of akram khan.and i just wanted 2 know exactly how many ppl think that.that's about it.

Tamim is a great player, but like the rest he is inconsistent. I fear that because he is kept away from academic lessons, his brain will, if it hasn't already, detoriate like that of Bashar and even Ashraful. I am sad to see a 19 yr old employed full time in cricket and not geting any formal education. These kids shouldn't be allowed in national team until they attend universities and perhaps play in national league for some time.

he's real just not quite ready yet....he's definitely talented, whether he'll go the route of the normal BD player and fade out or whether he'll rise above the rest is something we're going to have to wait and see.
