i am keeping an eye on Nasir Hossain(if he is on the squad),Anamul Haque(keeper-batsmen) and a few others(correct me if i am wrong, as this info is accurate based on my memory).

to FTP users: this is what happens when you invest in youth academies..... you get players like Shakib-al-Hasan with ease! certainly something Bangladesh has done and has done a good job of!

Mahmudul, yet another "Hasan" who may make it to the national team in less than 2 years!!!

But then again there is another Hasan (Abul) who came out of little known Jatrabari club in Dhaka 2nd division. There are other players in the current u-19 team who came out of different Dhaka 1st division clubs.

IMO, Bangladesh cricket will have better supply of talents if BCB strengthens Dhaka lower division leagues as well as club leagues in prominent cricket bases such as Chittagong, Sylhet, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, and Khulna.

Creary to captain WI U-19 World Cup team

http://caribbeancricket.com/news/2009/12/24/2989

The West Indies selectors have named a strong team to participate in the International Cricket Council’s Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand, and chairman of selectors Clyde Butts says he expects the team to perform very well.

FULL SQUAD: Andre Creary (Captain), Yannick Ottley (Vice Captain), Jermaine Blackwood, Nelson Bolan, Kraigg Brathwaite, John Campbell, Yannic Cariah, Akeem Dewar, Shane Dowrich (wicket-keeper), Nicholson Gordon, Trevon Griffiths, Jason Holder, Keon Joseph, Evin Lewis, Jomel Warrican.

Speaking on Thursday, Butts noted that the team is “very well balanced” including a number of allrounders who performed well in the West Indies Cricket Board’s Under-19 Tournament, which was played in Jamaica in August. The Captain is Jamaican allrounder Andre Creary, who played in the last ICC Under-19 World Cup in Malaysia two years ago. The Vice Captain is Yannick Ottley, from Trinidad and Tobago, who is also an allrounder.

“I think we have a very good team and I am confident they have the ability to go all the way. The team is a balanced one with quality batting, very good bowling and excellent in the field. I especially expect a lot from the two leg-spinners Akeem Dwyer and Yannic Cariah, who are capable match-winners. They (team) know what is required and the two leg-spinners add to the balance because they are very capable batsmen as well.” Butts said.

“I can see them going all the way. This team is better balanced than two years ago when we went to Malaysia and won the Plate Final. Since I saw them in the Under19 tournament in Jamaica and the WICB One-Day tournament in Guyana, you can see the vast improvement and development. They play well together and were excellent during the recent camp in St Kitts. You could clearly see the improvement and the boys are very enthusiastic.”

The team leaves the Caribbean next week and are expected to arrive in New Zealand on January 2. They will have a camp and then play warm-up matches against Ireland and Australia in Christchurch and Lincoln. The West Indies have been drawn in Group D in the opening round and will face Pakistan (Friday, January 15), Bangladesh (Sunday, January 17), and Papua New Guinea (Tuesday, January 19) at Fitzherbert Park, at Palmerston North near to the city of Napier. The two top teams will move on to the Cup phase and the bottom two will play in the Plate.

Butts, who was coach of the team to the 2004 World Cup in Bangladesh and manager of the team to the 2008 World Cup in Malaysia, noted that one vital aspect of the tour will be getting acclimatised to the conditions as soon as possible. He acknowledged that New Zealand is a difficult place for visiting teams and added that it is a wise move to have the team arriving two weeks before the tournament officially bowls off.

“It will be very important that the players make the mental and physical adjustment in New Zealand. The conditions will be a challenge, New Zealand is literally on other side of the world, but the big advantage, is that the team will be arriving early and will have the chance to play warm-up matches. They will be travelling straight to New Zealand so they should have enough time to get set for the big competition.”

For al Furqaan and other poor souls who can't read Bangla - Bangladesh U/19 have beaten BCB Academy team (led by Marshall Ayub) two out of two matches. In one match, Academy team was all out for 134. Matches took place in Chittagong, the venue of prep camp for the U/19 team.

anamul is one of the mainstays of this team... he is only 2nd in all-time list (in terms of total runs scored) for bangladesh.
Anamul, Mominul & Tasamul - all of them average above 30
Amit is the only BD player to score 2 centuries in u-19 one-dayers

But BD batting would rely on the heroics of 3 haques..

he is an underachiever. don't think he would go half the distance, that Shakib has gone so far, in his entire career.

Hope that they can at least proceed to the semi final stage. Last year, the boys did so well and then crashed to SA. From what i have been reading, it seems that all the Asian teams are very strong, but
the teams from the other nations are also strong. I am sure everyone will have a fighting chance and it will be a great contest.
Wish BD all the best.

The U/19 team should head quite early to NZ to familiarize themselves with the bouncy wickets and acclimatize to local conditions there. SL,India and NZ are getting good match practice by playing a tri series there at the moment. The USA and WI team are heading out there pretty soon also. In their group matches, they are playing West Indies, who will be there quite early for a training camp. Pakistan is also a fairly strong team. They should have no trouble winning against PNG.
I hope they proceed to the Quarter final stage, because the QF matches will be shown on my local cricket channel.

^^Ind and SL are playing a tri-series in South Africa at the moment not NZ. After that all three teams will fly out to NZ to play their warm-ups.

We didnt get to play against more stronger teams.Thats my concern. We played 5 ODIs against Zimbos. We should have had some matches against the likes of Pakistan,NZ,South Africa.

The teams seem to be quite evenly matched. However, unlike our national team, they actually have a chance to go to the final and win it.

Let's hear for our team...
