This is a fascinating group because other than Greece, a team inspired to play like Mahmudullah Riyad, each one of the other teams has the ability to advance. I pick CIV and Japan. Colombia are a great side on paper, especially with Falcao, but tend to succumb to possibly Cartel generated pressure at the big dance. They'll still beat Greece today but probably not convincingly without Falcao.

I'm really looking forward to this match. Love the way both teams play despite very different styles. Japan haven't looked back ever since emerging as a highly competitive side in 2002, and CIV have incredible team cohesion because of their tragic situation at home. Drogba is hellbent on playing his best and going deep into the tournament. That said, I see a 2-2 draw after an exciting match with lots of flair, pace and tactical excellence.

Peckerman! What a name

Watching Colombia play Greece and wondering why I'm wasting my time watching a bunch of verbose and talkative guys play mediocre soccer dominated by sloppy play. Makes me think of local soccer matches involving Badda Jagoroni except for the fact that these bitchy guys can still run around after 20 minutes and string together 3 passes. Not 4 or 5, but 3.

This is meth and coke fueled behavior with a soccer ball. Disgusting! I really want Japan and CIV to qualify from this group because seeing either Colombia or Greece in the second round will give me ulcer.

Superb technique from Uchida. Good save by the CIV keeper.

Classic FK from Yaya. Too high. The other type he does is too wide.

The defense in front of Kawashima is simply superb in its poise. CIV need a finisher like Drogba. Good moves being foiled the closer they get to the box.

Yaya takes another FK. Too high.

Honda almost gets another one. Shot deflected out for a corner.

"Regardless of their position in second world war" Japs are long been cherished as the genuine representative of Asia aside Korea, Suadi Arab and Iran.

Japan are very strong on the ball. They fight like hell to keep possession whenever challenged.

The name of the African opponent country must be related with centuries of maritime poaching history.

Japan's man-to-man marking inside the box is good.

Japan lead 1-0 at halftime. CIV badly need Drogba.

What a goal from Honda, absolute beauty. Their defense has been top notch. Ivory Coast can't get anything going inside, they are all over them. I have them going through to the 2nd round.

This is unfortunate that being highly populated and also leading Asia in many sports, China is unable to
represent Asia in World Cups.

It's a matter of time before China too makes its mark. It took Japan and Korea several World Cups and strong local leagues to get this good. Iran and Iraq also play with a positive attitude. The Saudis suck outside Asia. That win against Belgium was a fluke. Al-Owairan was their best player before his decline and imprisonment.

Drogba comes in. Even at 60% he's lethal inside the box.

CIV equalize. Great cross and an equally great header to finish.

CIV go ahead 2-1. Another great cross and header, this time from Gervinho. Kawashima effed up on that one. Should've been saved.

I think Japanese players lack stamina. Their loss to Ivory Coast today is identical to the loss to Australia 2 WC ago.

They were leading 1-0 whole game and they then copped 3 goals in a row right at the end.

I don't think stamina has ever been an issue with Japan, even when they were there to make up the numbers. The CIV equalizer was the result of a brilliant cross met by an equally brilliant header put together by very good players from a very good team. No stamina issues from what I saw. The game winner was also from an excellent cross but this time met with a header Kawashima should've had.

That said, it's terrible to give up a lead but then again trying to preserve a one goal lead by trying to run out the clock, especially for a team that scores most of its goals on the counterattack, isn't smart.

Japan has tactical issues to address, not anything else IMHO.
