Kalabagan's captain Harunur Rashid, on the other hand, claimed in a desperate attempt to defend his player that "Zahoor had no intention of hitting Hasibul, but only threw his bat out of disappointment. It was an accident".
I was in Bangladesh at that time, and it was hardly a case of a frustrated player throwing his bat at another. Elahi literally played a pull shot on Shanto's knee.

Hasibul, regarded as arguably the best pacer for a non-test nation, continued cheering in joy, until he collapsed to the field after being struck on the knee by Elahi with the bat.
this statement by itself raises anti-PAKI sentiments amongst the veins of many of you i sense

that was really uncalled for very sad

it is natural to celebrate after dismissing a top class batsmen, think about how New Zealand felt on December 26th 2007, after dismissing on form Dangerous Ashraful for 70...but thank God Ashraful kept his head cool

Zahoor Elahi---> BAD, and rightfully so

if zahoor was aware of shanto's general location on the field, then it was an intentional attack...not an accident. otherwise...

It was intentional and everyone who was there knew about it. In fact, Shanto's demise came around that time as well. However, Jahoor Elahi is still playing Dhaka League.

Yup, Shanto was never the same after the injury - it required hospitalization. Before that he was seriously pacy.

What is it with Pakistanis and the use of cricket bats?

Shoiab akhtar hit a team mate with a bat?
Inzamam went crazy beating people with a cricket bat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38GFaqXMw2E
Shahid Afridi tried to hit a spectator with a bat but missed

Not only the bat, they are also excellent ball tamperers.
Rashid Latif showed the world how to claim false catches at the wicketkeeping dept (still on youtube)
But all those are forgivable on some level. Its cricket afterall.
