Gavaskar also has a record for a "debut" century/most runs in a test. Not sure when but most probably the most prolific test debutant.

SMG scored 774 runs in four tests (missed the first test of the series with an injury) in his first series against West Indies, which is the record for a debut series.

He started off with a 65 and improved his personal best 5 times in the remaning seven innings before series was over, ending with a 220.
