Default Shariar Nafees Ahmed

Any idea about how this guy plays ? I mean is he some1 like Aftab Ahmed who can play good shots and is he a stroke player, if so he can be very useful for us the in 1st 15 overs.

I say that coz he is a lefty and for our team to have a lefty and righty openers would be something gud. The fielding side may have difficulty in setting up the fielding positions...if they play really gud and i blv Javed on the other hand is in some form and if Shariar Nafees can click too....it would be really kool...

What I feel is, Shahriar Nafees might have a chance if Nafees Iqbal will fail to perform in the practice match, and, on the other hand, if he (Shahriar Nafees) can perform well. Although he did well as a BD 'A' team player-cum-skipper, but he has no experience against the big boys of Australia and England. A debut in this series may be not very promising for him. But if he does and plays wonderful innings, it will be remarkable, because he should be facing the best bowling attack of present time.
Wish him success.

He is very talented and has poroven himself over age group and practice matches. However, he did not do so well in the practice matches on this series. Once he is not nervous anymore and starts playing his natural game, we may find him as good or better than Aftab. His past records (Century againt Inida U-19 team that won the WC he was not selected in, Century against Zimbabwe in practice match) shows he is good.

I am guessing that he's the same kind of player who'll play with little resopnsibility but with lots of 'debut' nature; for example: if he sees Bangladesh 4 wickets down for 10 runs, he'll still play same reckless shots as we see many of our so called 'talented' players to play; but since it'll be his debut series, so he'll succeed with the same kind of recklessness.

As we don't have too many left handed batsman in our whole domestic circuit, so he may have got some runs in our domestic cricket, but the Australians and the English are quite used to bowling at left handers, so in that respect, Shahriar Nafees might find it difficult to score runs - as fluently as he does against our own medium pacers.

India did not qualify for the last U19 WC final.

There is no point trying out abir right now. JO is at the pick of his form. Nafis has not done terribly bad. Ashraful is due with a big one anytime he can cool his head down and start walking on the earth. Rajin did very well last few ODI he played. Aftab is the best middle order player right now. So, there is no place for abir. We need to stop making changes to make room for unexperienced and unproven players.

Nafis didn't go terribly bad?!!!!
I'm not sure if you actually saw him batting, or just saw his scores??!!!
Do you see any assured footwork?
How can you say that? I have not like this guy from day 1!!!

I'm also with you. He seemed to be just another "promising" BD player, nothing very special

chyicarus, look at the overall picture. not just one matche or one series. not to mention the opening pari in england test has been the most consistant. This been a hard series for everyone but consider his performance since his debut. he has just beginning to get his feet in international arena. Above all, the amount of chance he got is not still enough. to me it seems like i'm repeating myself again and again: there is no point getting another debutant until throughly testing the existing ones.

Habibul Bashar is taller than Rajin Saleh who is taller than Mushfiqur Rahim.

On the other Hand, Bashar is shorter than Nafees Admed, who is shorter than Munir, wno is shorter than Mashraffe.

So if Mashrafee is 6' 1" and Mushfiqur is 4'11", my guess Bashar is 5' 5"

He is too young to play right now . He should go back in BD and play with mates in his own suburbs back in BD..... So , he can come back after a while in the national squad if he gets in then .

Mashrafee is 6'1'' - 6'2" for sure
Abir is 5'10"

Mushfiq-ur-Rahman, Rajin & Aftab is 5'4"

Here's the link to a thread that was opened before the tour about Shahriar Nafees, might be of interest for the newcomers, basically to examine if views on this player have changed or not after the practice matches.

Analyzing Shahriar Nafees Ahmed

Don’t you think guys; we are criticizing a new comer too early who didn’t get a chance to play any of the test matches in this series. That’s the problem with most of us. We start analyzing a player too early, doesn’t matter whether he is good or bad or got enough time to prove himself. Come on guys give them a little bit of time. Keep patience. Don’t expect too much in the beginning. Time will say everything. Don’t forget how our selectors picking up players for BD team, at this time. We can’t expect any new comers will be like “Michael Clarke ”. Because we are not Australia. Our infrastructure is not like Australia. But we hope one day we will reach that mark.

am i the only one around here who looks at the half full glass? there are enough lefties in our domestic cricket. the top run getter, golam rahman, is a lefty. and thats not the point, abir got his runs with our u-19 and the A team, playing against other country's u-19's and stuff. and recently, he finished playing with a pretty strong zim A team. blah....if he sucks, he sucks. but lets not say he sucks before he even got a chance to bat.

p.s. lmfao....good one fazal

THANK YOU 3rd eye!! seriously...

Anywayz, i can't say anything more- coz there's no point talking to a brick wall!

If you ask about consistency, why not you are asking about everyone instead of asking to Shariar. How many consistent player we have in BD team. And before we ask about Shariar, we should ask some other players who are quite regular in the team. Don’t you think so? And do you have enough evidence to break this break wall?

i want AL SHAHRIAR ROKON..our most promising and talented player ever..to be back on the team (replacing both the other shahriars..cuz he is soooo good) and be our saviour....

i want HASIBUL HOSSAIN SHANTO..to be back on our pace attack..replacing MASHRAFEE..

i want ENAMUL HAQUE MONI..to come out of retirement and replace RAFIQ to ensure our succes...

im serious guys...if those changes are made...
we r definitely gonna become the unbeaten champions of the natwest series...

didnt we already have that experience...(tapash instead of mashrafe)(3rd ODI vs IND) i SO don't ever want to see him playing ODIs ever again..

anyway, nafis iqbal may not be doing very well now, but we all know his potential. we need to stop dropping players and picking new young guys. I mean, the old players need confidence and assurance and dropping them (or thinking of dropping them) isn't gonna do them any good...

besides, abir's young. surely, he can be developed into something big before being placed into the international scene...
