Heaven is an American salary, a Chinese cook, an English house, and a Japanese wife. Hell is defined as having a Chinese salary, an English cook, a Japanese house, and an American wife.

There is a news in today's prothm alo that submarine cable is going to open this month
http://www.prothom-alo.net/v1/newhtm...&filename=22h7

Personally, I will believe when I see it. Even if it opens this month, it will take some time before we see the benefit. And I'm not sure how much speed the end users will get for a reasonable price.

Reality checks -

- Unlimited download/usage simply means there's no time or bandwidth restriction.

- 100mbps is basically the highest speed a 100mbps Fast Ethernet (100Base-T) medium can handle.

- A full 100mbps connection is not yet available to home users in the UK, as far as I'm concerned.

- Only NTL and Telewest Broadband are testing 100mbps connections, which may be available next year.

- It will only apply to cable, which is available in 79% of UK.

- Currently the highest DSL speed available to home customers (in UK) is 8mbps, provided by ISPs such as Bulldog, EasyNet, UKOnline, etc.

- As far as I know Tiscali only provides 1mpbs/2mbps connections.

- ADSL2/ADSL2+ are being introduced to provide up to 24mbps connections.

What I'd like to know is what's your true download/upload speed?

Being a regular BBR-er, I know HB is right. I highly doubt you actually get 100 mbit over wireless. Good for you if you really do. Screenshots will do

I'm on Bell Sympatico DSL in Canada

3Mbps download
800kbps uploads
Monthly usage capped at 60GB

The highest download speed I ever get usually is 340KBps (@1024) = 2720 kbps/ 2.65Mbps

As for BD submarine cable station, I remember the station at cox's bazar was doing test runs, and also got inaugurated by PM a couple of months back. Secondly, GrameenPhone has monopoly over BR's internal FibreOptic network (upto ctg), and will not be giving last mile solutions. According to their website:

Quote:
FON Division (GP) will sub-lease capacity at E1 PCM level only and would not provide last mile connectivity. The Division (GP) shall refer all clients of channel level requirement either to Its Strategic Joint Venture (X-Net) or the Dealer /Agent (Ranks ITT).

Wimps all. Wimps.

I remember connecting on a 1200 baud modem to mt Universities network to read rsc (using trn) for updates on our ICC Trophy venture in Kuala Lumpur.

How things have changed. I get anywhere betwen 3 - 7 Mb/s depending on time of day.

Right, let me remind everyone.

Broadband speed and LAN speeds are measured in bps > Bits / second
Download speeds releavnt to us : Bps > Bytes / second

1 Byte = 8 bits

So, 8 Mbps = 8 Megabits per second = 1 Megabyte per second.
Due to factors such as distance from Telephone Exchange and how many users are online , actual speeds on a 8Mbps will be about 750 KBps ( Kilobytes per second )

Everybody seems to be luckier than me. I am still in the range of 54 kbps; that is traditional bangladeshi broadband.
