I agree with Gowza.
Sohrawardy Shuvo can be one potential solution until get a really good spinner who can be an automatic choice. If Shuvo can fill the role of the second spinner all-rounder (IMO, he is a better spinner tha Riyad), we can still play 3 pacers and 2 spinning all-rounders.
The team should look something like this.
1. Tamim
2. Opener 2 (position up for grabs)
3. Position up for grabs/Naeem Islam
4. Ashraful/Rokibul/Naeem/Position up for grabs
5. Riyad
6. Mushfiq
7. Shakib
8. Shuvo/Position up for grabs
9. Shahadat
10. Rubel
11. Shafiul

Very interesting. Have you watched either Shubhashish or Talha bowl lately?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not questioning your claim that they might be better than the current lot. I'm genuinely curious. I too am not too happy with the way the selectors have handled the pace bowling department.

Well the team is already decided with Showrawrdy in the training camp with the current squad. I dont think Shubhasish or Talha are in the minds of the selectors as yet. They are performing in the NCL rather brilliantly but I think Shubho is whom they are thinking outside the core group of 15. BTW: Nafees and Robin are released from the squad to play at the NCL ( Source: Prothom Alo)

Pace and brain
Our bowling is impressive and I think it is not up to the par compare to the quality pace bowlers. I've been watching the Aus/Pak and NewZealand/Pak matches and what is common with their distructive pace attack is, they consistantly land the ball on the seam. The ball just takes off like a fireball. Our pace bowlers have strength but did not see anyone is landing or try to land on the seam. Even the Indian bowlers do that. Is our bowling coach working on it? Did any one else notice that? If our bowlers ball with their heart and their brain, the will be truely distructible.

fair call, i haven't seen them bowl lately but talha has been impressive this NCL and subashis has been bowling well for a couple of years plus has been talked highly of by quite a few people. not saying they're necessarily better than the current lot but if they're going to take more than 3 pacers then i think those 2 plus sajidul are worth considering. btw shafi has a nice bouncer, he's surprised the indian batsmen a number of times this tour with his shorter one.

The main tone is: They bowled good deliveries (wicket taking ones). The question is how many of those got wickets? Should we be satisfied with seeing what these bowlers are doing with sudden burst of good deliveries, which couldn't take wickets most of the time? My answer is "No".
Then you add how young these bowlers are and advise to look at their FC background (not very rich and long) - yes promising.
But we have come through 10 years of Test playing days and if I'm asked whether I'm satisfied/impressed - my expectation is getting higher day by day and that's why I can't say I'm impressed. It might help if we start 2 tiers of threads, one for impressive bowling from inexperienced pacers, one for unimpressive result from 10 year old Bangldesh!

again it's consistency. rubel has done much better in this test match from what i've seen, he's bowled less full deliveries and less shorter ones and bowled alot more at a good length. pacers need to have a stock ball which comes off a good length/back of a length which is on off or just outside off and is used most of the time and they need to use their variations to surprise the batsmen and change things up everynow and then.
rubel has a good yorker, but when he bowls it 2 or 3 times an over it's useless, shafi has a good bouncer but if he bowls it 2/3 times an over batsmen will expect it and you're more likely to get a wicket if they don't expect it. all 3 of them bowl on the legs and too straight too often.
basic bowling is to use your stock ball 4/5 times an over then mix it up for 1 or 2 balls. the reason the wicket taking balls aren't taking wickets is because the batsmen aren't under enough pressure at the time because the bowlers aren't keeping their line and length tight enough. plus if you bowl the right length and the right line (just outside off) and you keep the seem up then your more likely to get movement off the pitch which will toruble the batsman more than if it's on their legs.

Only spinners can create havoc in no-Flintoff lineup. Kal Purush bhai is still suseptable to spin. Collingwood'er din shesh. Cook is not a chef. Swann'rey bash diya shesh koire feltey hobay.

definitely...having a trio doesn't mean will we play them on every pitch. but that also doesn't mean that the trio doesn't have promise - many were saying they're rubbish.
they will struggle at times, but this is best we have to work with. even mash has been an ordinary pacer, especially recently.
but yes, spin them out with sakib, enam, and riyad when the pommies come to town!

O please, dont think about excluding Enam against England. If any one recalls it was the England tour in 2003-4 when Enam became the spinning whiz he is. He got 7fer or 6fers against ENG academy or U19. Also when England main team visited in 2004, Enam caused significant troubles. So excluding him would be a dumb mistake

Sajedul will be hit all over the park by McCullum and co. As for pommies just make a green top pitch.

I'm tired of watching bowlers show a lot of promise without any end result. Pretty much every fast bowler starting from Manju to Talha to Sharif to ... to Sajed to Robin to this bunch has shown "promise", but none of them have turned out to be long term solutions.
Let me be clear that I don't blame the players for this. I'm sure these guys will become good with time, but I'm not sure they should be playing Test cricket yet. Figures of 100+/0 off 23 overs aren't exactly inspiring, no matter who the opposition is. I just feel that these guys will be giving us much more if they make their way to the national team through a process where they play a few FC seasons at home and go on enough overseas FC tours. The reality is Shafiul has only played 7 FC games and Rubel was picked off the streets from a pacer hunt program.

I soo much agree.. I think they should be given more time to bowl under less pressure, out of the international scene.. And they should be coached nicely, but by not putting too much pressure on them.. Then I think they will be good to actually give us a whole career of good bowling rather than a few months/years and then getting totally lost.. Thats what has happened to the players names you had given in the promise list..

Well they played well, India would have been 200/4 at one stage and we could have got them under 350 if Rokibul held onto those catches. Rubel still needs some time, he needs to fix his no ball problem and I don't think he is ready for International cricket, even though he has the pace and does trouble batsman, after a year he'll be a good asset in the team.
Shahadat is our bowler version of V.V.S Laxman, as V.V.S always plays well against the Aussies, Hossain plays well only against S.A.F. His slow bouncers won't bother the English batsmen nor the Kiwis. Champaka hasn't done anything special with the bowlers, Shahadat was even slower when he was following Champaka's instructions, coming back to his old one he is bowling some deliveries at 135+ which was good to see. I don't think Mash needs to be in the test team, we need players or pacers who averages under 32 with the bowl.

But hasn't he looked fairly (pardon the term) ordinary since then against other foreign teams? Can people who have seen him in action recently comment on whether his bowling still has teeth?

Miju, that's good to hear. I did, obviously, enjoy his past performances against England. But I am a little wary of depending too much on good performances in our domestic circuit.
