Default Rafiqul Alam to head Bangladesh selection panel

Cricinfo

Rafiqul Alam, the former Bangladesh batsman, has replaced Faruque Ahmed as Bangladesh's new chairman of selectors, the Bangladesh Cricket Board announced today. Naimur Rahman, Bangladesh's first Test captain, is the other change in the selection panel and he replaces Athar Ali Khan.

The new selectors were appointed by a panel appointed by the ad-hoc executive committee of the board. Both will begin their duties from September 1.

Alam played two one-dayers during the tour of Sri Lanka in 1986. He is also a match-referee with the board and has been involved in coaching as well.

Offspinner Rahman led Bangladesh in its first ever Test, against India in Dhaka in 2000. He played eight Tests and 29 ODIs and was the first Bangladesh bowler to take a five-wicket haul in Tests, incidentally in their maiden Test.

Rafiq, Durjoy and Akram it is.

I have no idea about Rafiq these days and how much he is involved with cricket, though, reports suggest, he has been working in some capacity with BCB, which is of paramount importance. The chief selector must and should have a pulse on the cricket scene in the country.

He was a good batsman from his era ( 80's ) and watched him on a few occassions.

This Alam is the famous Bagh Mama, agressive batsman, then selector, then a referee, now chief selector.

Shokoralhamdulillah it ain't Mainul ...

Only time will tell how Rafiq, AK and Durjoy will do as selectors. Best of luck to them, they certainly look better on paper.

Anybody who can make Faruikka look good would've done something similar to me also.

the old ones did a very good job on thier stint.

New coach (soon), new captain, new management..

Rafiq-ul-Alam, who was known for aggressive batting, first played for Bangladesh in 1980. He represented the country in two ODIs in 1986 and played in the 1982 and 1986 ICC Trophy. He last played for the national team in the 1992 ACC Trophy in Singapore.

Alam is currently a Match Referee with the Bangladesh Cricket Board and also involved in coaching.

Congrats to the new panel, hope they continue the good work.

I think the last panel did a satisfactory job. Job well doen, Faruk.

I don't understand something why this guy (Rafiqul Alam) was considered as aggressive batsman?? his strike rate in two ODI's was around 38%

Back then all players had terrible records in ODI. He is considered aggressive for his batting in the Dhaka league.
