Room wanted in NYC( doesn't matter which borough)
How y'all doing?
I need a place to stay for the month of June in NYC. Do any of y'all have big houses in NYC with an extra room maybe? I'm willing to pay $200 a month. And I'm very real about this obviously. I have two internship interviews spaced out in June and so desperately need a place to lodge. And all the places I looked into are so damn expensive.
I stay 6 hours away from NYC , and would be looking forward to move in this June 1st, and get out in the 1st week of July if I don't get the internships. If I do get them, then the money I get from them should allow me to move in to one of those hostels ( which are still very expensive). Either ways, I'm out in the 1st week of July.
Thank you,
Sincerely
Roey Haque

Have you tried airbnb? Go to airbnb.com BUT verify location with your fellow NYC BC members.
$200 a month may be difficult proposition in NY.
Another option might be considering staying in Westchester (south of Chappaqua/Ossining) or Stamford and then take the train in. Your costs might be lower. Stamford to Grand Central is only about 45 minutes.

Thanks for the advice. Just went to airbnb.com. It's no help, the lowest rent is $608.
What do you mean by verifying my location with my fellow NYC BC members? airbnb.com and this site are not related, are they?

Verify - get advice from them as to whether the neighborhood is good.
airbnb - no, not affiliated. I have used it myself recently to rent vacation condos in various countries and the experience was very positive. I wish I were getting a commission.
Anyway - the NYC-ers can tell you but I think you might have trouble finding something for $200. A week maybe, month mmm....

$200 for a month in the city? Not gonna happen dude. You wanna live in the city for that amount I'd say try to find a relative you can crash with.

I remember paying $300 a month for a filthy little closet space in Brooklyn during a slummin' summer back in 1988. I don't think $200 will get you even a week nowadays. Staying with relatives is probably the most realistic option with that kind of budget.

$200 per month in NYC ?? Forget about NY, even if you want a modest 2 bed room apt in Dhaka prime area, it will cost you around that money.

Roey, $200 in NYC is impossible. If you have relatives, try to crash there. I live far from the city and even there, a studio costs around $800 now. A lot of the landlords won't give a lease for one month. Most places wants at least 1 yr contract and 2 months deposit. So you can look at some Bengali newspapers where they have regular ads for Room mate Wanted. That's the cheapest option available.

You can also give Sulekha.com a try. But I doubt you can get anything for $200. Good luck

If I was in NY, I would let you live at my place for a month, free.
Too bad I live in Montreal. But then again, some of our members are in NY, and someone may be willing to help out a deshi bhai.
Its not about the money, its about helping someone in need.

Get a copy of weekly Thikana and search through the classified section. Some people ask for roommates there.

What do you mean slack? I have a choice in who I want in my house. This is not open public open house party.
This kid was cursing the crap out of me two days ago; joined the forum recently; so why the hell would I allow him to crash in my place?
I am not really running a background check am I? Its based on pure trust and I guess I will take that calculated risk with many members here mostly the old members. Sorry that's how it is.

That does not make you a friend.
idumb has a valid point - sounds harsh but that's the smart thing to do. You don't open up your house to some random stranger. I don't know you or idumb from a collection of mugshots at my local precinct. That being said, I've made friends of some people I first met here on BCB and mi casa is su casa for them. Of course, not before I've actually met them face to face and made the determination that they are NOT Dahmer's second cousin. I still have doubts about Mahmood, so I would be wary about his open invitation. I value my liver because I want to live.

I think he can manage money to stay 1 month in NYC. I don't think 200 is his budget. He is just being cheap. I don't think he is truly in need. That's my educated judgement. Don't get all emotions mixed in it. If bc feels strongly they can collect 400 dollars extra for him to add to his 200 to let him stay in city for a month. U can contribute too.
When a person truly needs something; and it strikes me hard; I will step up.

I'm sure you can't get a room for a month for $200 bucks even in Elmira.
However, getting back on topic - lets hear back from the OP.
