Shafiul is a SIDEWAYS bowler (back foot lands parallel with the crease) but has a slight 'mix' at the top (misaligns his hips with top half).

Mashrafee couldn't be more SIDEWAYS if he tried (both top and bottom completely lined up correctly).

Shafiul has work to do on using his trailing leg better and not splaying out his front foot so much. Mash is at the behest of his injuries sadly and will always be unable to correct his 'crossed over' feet at the crease.

I guess the reason why I observed what I did is because, I was always taught that, if you are bowling side on, then at the point of delivery, the head is looking at the batsmen over the leading arm (ike Shoiab Akhtar), and if the action is chest on, then the head looks at the batsmen from inside the leading arm (like Mcgrath). The above is supposed help the bowler align the top and bottom part of the torso. So when I see Shafiul bowling on TV, I always thought he was bowling chest on because of the above logic.

It would be great if you can provide some thoughts on the above. Thanks.

Ian, I have another technical question. How is the Bangladeshi boys use of the wrist and fingers at the point of delivery to get nip of the wicket? I remember reading a book on Boimechanics a while ago, that claimed, the difference between county standard pace and international standard pace bowlers is the use finger flex. I will try to find the source of the book asap.

On a personal point of view, your book is great, I have followed some of your guidance, about swing bowling and now able to control the outswing and inswing at will in addition to being more accurate; the chest drive is something that I wasn't doing properly before. Thanks

99% of coaches have no idea how to tell if a bowler is side on front or or mid way (semi).

All you need to look at is where the back foot points on landing in the crease. Shafiul and Mash are both sideways to the direction they are bowling. Rubel is mid way or semi
