England Vs West Indies 4th Test Chester-Le-Street
England won the toss and elected to field first
Michael Vaughan, the England captain, has won the toss and put West Indies into bat at Chester-le-Street, as the fourth Test finally gets underway on the second afternoon.
Three-and-a-half sessions have been lost due to rain so far. After yesterday's washout - play abandoned without a ball being bowled - the weather was less threatening this morning, giving hope of a prompt start to play. However, so heavy has the rain been in the north of England over the past few days, that The Riverside's outfield was severely saturated.
England team: Strauss, AN Cook, MP Vaughan, KP Pietersen, PD Collingwood, IR Bell, MJ Prior, RJ Sidebottom, SJ Harmison, MS Panesar, MJ Hoggard
West Idies: D Ganga,CH Gayle,DS Smith,RS Morton,S Chanderpaul,DJ Bravo, MN Samuels, D Ramdin, CD Collymore, DBL Powell, FH Edwards

sammy came out unfit. there is a lot going on in the backdoor. the board is divided into two. selection in WI is not so straightforward. ultra-politico and intra-island egos run around all the time. i have been curiously following and found that not all the time the best performers are exposed normally. god knows when things will start executing properly.
by the way bravo hits a 4 in the first over of Hoggard after tea.

32.5 | Sidebottom to Chanderpaul, FOUR, lovely stroke, capitalising on this wider delivery, cutting it calmly behind square down to third man for four |
that brings the 100

"And the umpires converge, in that slow funerial manner, to consult on the light. They don't like it, and it really is looking bleak out there. Yes - off they go. On come the covers, and that might well be the end of play today. Terrific, fighting partnership from this pair. We'll keep you updated on proceedings out in the middle."

shiv and marlon dealing with monty and the sidebottom man at the moment. windies 177 for 5, shiv on 75 and looking unbeatable. if marlon delivers on those all those promises, and this would be a good time to do it, our boys have a shot.

69.4 | Sidebottom to Ramdin, OUT, what a fine piece of bowling that is and a superb catch from Collingwood at second slip. Angled across him, the ball then cut back a touch to Ramdin who tried to punch it off the back foot but could only edge it to Collingwood who took it in front of his face | | D Ramdin c Collingwood b Sidebottom 13 (22b 2x4 0x6) SR: 59.09 |
70.2 | Harmison to Powell, OUT, good grief. What a dreadful shot that is. A touch wider of the off stump and Powell tries to pull it, but skies it to Prior behind the stumps who steadies himself to take a comfortable catch | | DBL Powell c
Prior b Harmison 1 (3b 0x4 0x6) SR: 33.33 |
dramatic turn out of events

It's all over. Collymore goes for 13, just shy of his top score of 16. Great innings from Chanderpaul, once again their highest scorer. A useful contribution, too, from Bravo, with 44. And well done Sidebottom, who got his first five-for in Tests.
Here world's most laconic batsman between the wickets:
