I'm not thinking about human rights of others, other than my own: Geeteara Safiya
BDnew24.com reported the following:
Quote:
Industry adviser Geeteara Safiya Choudhury Tuesday said she cares little about the rights of people other than hers, for now. "I'm not thinking about human rights at this time, but my own," she said. She made the remarks while commenting on a joint statement of 14 eminent citizens on the recent confusions over the caretaker government's handling of the two former prime ministers.
|
Not a good comment…not at all.
That’s the first time I saw her making comment on sensitive political issues.
First time she opened mouth and immediately on her way to create a blunder.
She needs to keep her mouth shut.
Otherwise we will soon get a Bangladeshi political version of Mandira Bedi.

misunderstood her comments, lol.
She is putting herself on their shoes and then thinking about Human rights. That is one step further.

Very Insensitive comment by Geeteara Safiya.
It does sound as bad, if the comments were made in reference to human rights of Khaleda and hasina being forced out of the country

Now comming back to the topic. I think she meant that when her life is at stake there is little room to think about other people's right. I mean most likely she meant.... "Nejey bachley Baper Nam"..... No?

What a stupid thing to say. I am pretty sure she did not mean it the way it is being percieved ... in the same vein as Fazal's post. But in future she should keep her mouth shut.
While BAL & BNP leaders are cleverly trying to paint the CTG as a military govt in disguise to the foreign media, it is of utmost importance for the CTG to avoid being too glib or over-smart.

I also think her quote is being taken out of context. I doubt whether she actually said this or meant it or it might have been misconstrued by the journalist. She is not a seasoned politician aka illiterate to make comments as such. I agree with Sauron the CTG should be very careful of what they say to the media because the two seasoned political parties aka bunch of illiterates are hell bent on proving that this is a military government in disguise.
Just as a side: If this is military rule I would take this over AL or BNP any day.

We had so much hope in this CTG......may be too much unrealistic hope. The way things are going... with miss-steps here and there by CTG.... looks like CTG will again make these two ladies heroes again. It was claimed by few people in February (that I know ) that "wait and see... AL and BNP will fight together against CTG and the popularity of CTG will vanish like vapor by the end of the year." Unfortunately things are going that way....it’s so disappointing.
Few examples of miss-steps (in my eyes):
- Fake and useless cases against Tarik, Maudud, Hasina, etc,
- Attempt to force out these ladies (instead of bringing genuine cases and prosecuting them),
- Advisors giving flip-flop and controversial comments. ( Two Ms and one G)
- No clear cut transparency what is the criteria to be in the corruption list and who is not ( e.g. why Ret. Maj. Iskander is still roaming freely?)
- Bringing all those stupid extortion cases and relief material cases ( e.g. relief Shari in Moudud's home). We all know they are corrupt, I was expecting they would bring more genuine and believable cases instead.
- Trying to blackmail a mother (K Zia and her two sons) regardless how bad she may be make me feel real uncomfortable.
- Trying to do too many things, more than they can handle gives me an impression they may not have a good idea what they want to accomplish. At least they are not saying to us, what they are really wants to accomplish. That raises another question “what is their hidden agenda?”
- Breaking those 'Bostis' without any plan relocation plan ( home to stay and work to earn). And now tdealing with those unpaid jute mill workers.
- Gives us a feeling that the judicial system is still not working an independent identity. ( e.g. Ershad's case, T Rahmn's case, etc)
I still support CTG, but my support is now a days is luke-warm. Not sure anymore if we are going away from tigers but going into a bear's den or not. We all agree that our major political parties need to go through a reform, New blood needs to come in politics either through these major parties or by a 3rd party or both. But the action of CTG is not giving me a good feeling. I have a feeling that they are using some deceiving tactics to do something good (??... I hope so). But the problem is, on principle, I believe that usually nothing good can come out of lies and deceiving tactics: if we are not careful it will create another monster. Absolute power (without any check and balance) is usually not good.
Bottom line, I still hope that CTG reform our society by prosecuting and punishing the corrupt politicians, business man and bureaucrats. But I hope they do it in a legal way, even that may mean that some few corrupt will get away, I am ok with that.

Well said, Fazal.
It feels like they are driving us to somewhere and we, the people, have no clue what so ever.
I just hope the Driver knows the road well and avoids reckless driving.

Arnab,
It's not just us probashis. Many of us Bangladeshis tend to react to political news the same way we do to news of our cricket team, veering from manic elation to depression, and vice versa, without being calm and level-headed and seeing how things play out in the long run. But we are a young nation, and in the realms of both cricket and politics, have had our hopes dashed multiple times. Maturity will come, in time.

Love that connection between our politics and our cricket.
Our folks want overnight change, overnight success. Our batsmen go after every ball before getting a feel of the wicket. Our expectation from the players is a world cup when they're good enough to hang in for dear life in the Super 8s. Similar expectation from the politicians. Give 'em some time and see what they can do.
