ICC World Test Championship 2017
Test Championship to replace Champions Trophy
The Champions Trophy is now officially history with the ICC confirming a World Test Championship from 2017 onwards in line with its goal of having one pinnacle tournament for each of the three formats over a four-year period. This also means that the World Twenty20 will he held once every four years starting 2016 instead of the current two-year interval.
In another decision taken to "ensure an optimum balance between the three formats of the game", teams will now have to play a minimum of 16 Tests in each four-year cycle with the ICC board accepting the recommendation of its cricket committee. There have been a number of recent examples of Test series being postponed due to conflicting demands, either from one-day cricket or the proliferation of Twenty20 leagues. Countries might still be able to give preference to limited-overs cricket, though, with the requirement being set as low as 16 Tests.

I disagree. There are so many followers of test cricket in every nation probably except Bangladesh and maybe the West Indies. The British and Aussies love test cricket and it can be said that you are not a true fan of cricket if you don't like test cricket.
NZers and the Saffers love test cricket as well.

Test is pretty much dead here. T20 will overun us. Even 50 overs seems too much for some batsmen. 4 day cricket pulls no crowd and quality is horrible. Can't see that changing anytime soon.
I honestly think if t20 cricket didn't exist cricket would be dead here. It was that bad.

Nope, I know it sounds hard to believe.Sadly those were the old days. Unless we are actually winning against big teams again I dont see crowds increasing. WICB doesn't make money on Test cricket. Which is why the Pakistan test series was canceled in favour of tri series. People still do like Test but its a hard sell when you are not winning. If you look at the people who go to watch most of them are the older ones.
Most 4 day matches finish in 2 days here, that's how bad the batting is in the longer version.
Younger generation love the boom boom cricket. Chanderpaul will be the last of the great generation.

Its only going to be the top 4 teams to preserve the IND/AUS/ENG axis. It will be interesting to see what happens if one or two of those teams aren't ranked in the top 4, or if the home team misses out.
I don't mind having a just a 3 series playoffs (semis + final) but the all Tests played in the 4 year cycle must be part of that, which ICC will do. But it doesn't make sense of teams like England play 50 Tests in 4 years and teams like Bangladesh play 20 or less.
