The argument that he is still at official age of 24+ and this age is in his side doesn't bear any weight unless it is backed by stat that indeed shows that he is gradually improving in last few years. Actually if you see his progression durin his last six years, you would see its pretty steady or rather going down recently.

If this is the trend, then we may already seen his best and if we continue with him without any drastic change or message to him, most likely he would end up with playing 100 TEST match with a career average of 16 or so. In the process he may end up scoring 2 more centuries, but for the rest of the remaining 49 games he would continue to score mainly single digit runs.

If thats what you want, then I would say you are significantly compromising BD teams's best interest. For the next 51 TEST, if we give chance to some of the younger players, it would be a better long term investment and better result in should term.

Well, why not just 101 and 45 and then you get an average of 73. Or better still, only 101 - so he scores a hundred every match.

The bottom line is: he has played 49 tests for an average of 23. I can't see it moving much because sooner or later either he will play across the line or he will chase a wide one with an uppish stroke. That is how he is and he will not change.

Even in the middle of this bad spell, he didn't think there was anything wrong with his batting.

In fact, the demise of the ICL was very instructive. Suddenly his trump card - to join them went up in a puff of dust - and the Board had nothing to fear. The little man was cut to size. Now, he is no longer the indispensable Ashraful - just another batsman hanging on to his place !!

You are right Imtiaz bhai. My hesitation to drop Ash earlier had one main thing that went for him. I always maintained that only the other five-six batsmen in the team can force his departure. As long as they didn't produce consistently, selectors will always keep him in the team. Now, that the other batsmen in the team are showing better application and producing more runs than him, he can be ignored eventually if he keeps up his antics. Only the rest of the batsmen can make him redundant. It looks that way now..

I wish he could have just developed into a all rounder. Leg spin would have added variety into our spin attack and he could add lower order punch (like afridi).

Instead he went full out as batsman, when hes mentally no-where close to being strong enough.

I do hope he fixes himself, because thats a lot of talent to lose. I think he should play next match. Hes only had burden of captancy gone for 1 match. Its too small of a sample size. One or two more tests and if he continues to struggle, send him away to work on his game.
Mark Richardson started as a number 11 batsmen, he was a spin bowler who turned himself into an opener who ended up average 44-45

stats are giving me a headache, anyway if you want to talk about stats he's averaged 15.85 in his last 11 tests (i believe that stat involves every test he's played under siddons) but a test or two earlier (when they played sri lanka) and you have to add another century to the stats.

with ashraful, like any player it's not just about the stats. look at how he's played from the beginning of the t20 WC, he's been horrible every innings and not just in regards to runs, it's how he's been applying himself at the crease which is the biggest issue atm.

btw if we're just going to go on talent the middle order would be aftab, alok and ash, looks great talent wise but looks totally terrible consistency wise.

Let's stop this Ash-bashing and keep him in the team for the BD-WI series to the end. We, the fans, are not better than our batters; we have no patience.
He is the most dangerous BD batter if he survives the first few overs
He performs when no other does
He has earned the brand name as the "most valuable wicket."
He is 23 and has a lot of time left.

Suddenly a loser, who showed he does not even have the brain to talk sensibly, is better than Ash?

Ash has always been like this, a lowly career with sudden very big spikes. When those spikes comes, its worth the wait. Just let him alone and let him play his game. He will come back soon.

Ah Fazal! Sounds very reasonable, only if those imaginary numbers [next 51 TEST] has least of a meaning. Man, you cant even wait to see him dropped in NEXT test!! How come you imagine Ash playing next 51 TEST without having heart-attack?!?

Fun apart, Everybody knows Ash is in the process of being dropped, unless he lift up his game. Let him go through that process, finish this series, so that he cant claim he was not given enough chance [in this series] before being dropped. Its all about couple of games more in the middle of a series, and so far I see here, none asking to keep him in the team for upcoming series. So let him go back to domestic league in due process, with respect and dignity, let him work there hard.

give him the series, he might need some time to adjust to not being captain anymore, i would prefer to try someone else against zimbabwe though.

Don't go for stats when you are thinking about any BD player.

Ash is not performing or he tends to perform after long breaks, face it this is BD standard. To have regular a performer in the lineup we have to wait for the next generation to come.

That is also bit cloudy after watching BD U-19's performance against ENG U-19

i strongly believe the current generation of players like shakib, naeem, tamim etc will become decently consistent. i'm not expecting them to average 40+ with the bat or much less than 30 with the ball but i believe alot of them will be able to average 30+ with the bat and under 35 with the ball and imo that would be a good step forward for BD cricket.

@Fazal: mamu, you do realize no one believes you are capable of being objective when it comes to Ash right?
Note, that doesn't take away your right to bash him though - bash away - the ammo's there in large volume ...

That's good point based on reality.

My mind says stupid Ash should be replaced immediately.
But my heart says why?
- when tamim bat you take very urgent bathroom break.
- when Junaid bat you take coffee break.
- when Musfiq bat you take lunch break.
- when sakib bat you still open the door to collect letters from postman.
But when ash Gadha Bat you become motionless, attach your eyes into tv/computer screen.
Damn you ash!!!! make a double century next test.

in shareholder's meeting, all the minority shareholder vote for one board of director...because their one vote wouldn't make any difference, therefore all the minority combines their votes to make their voices heard....same thing here at BC, there are so many Ash fans(majority) and two or three Ash haters(Minority)...so the minority alwayz keeps screaming, every single day, every single thread against ash....the purpose is to make their voices heard....its understandable, but sometimes it's annoying!!

There's no replacement for Ash.

But there should be some replacement for thankless fans...who fail to appreciate even the little impact he has made.

Did you guys not see the way he bowled? He bowled tight, and if he was lucky, he would've ended the WI chase (had that catch not been dropped). I want to see him bowl more in Test 2. We need to give him the opportunity to find his way back...the real reason why he was selected in the first place. However, he should be brought down to 5-down. That will give him a real opportunity to find his rhythm back. Until he gets it back, leave him in the team...and keep supporting him. He needs support more than these rubbish talk.

To me, Ash is always in the team as long as he's not the captain. You don't have a person performing all the time. Ash gets to stay. Thankless fans - out.

IMO ashraful's bowling was important, but if he fails as a batsmen then there should be no reason to keep him, he is a specialist batsmen after all. If he changes into an all-rounder then we need to observe his bowling closely in the domestic tournaments for atleast 2 seasons before taking him into the national team again.

Kabir bhai, the problem is some of the people here don't even watch the game live. They have no clue what happened on the field. They read the comments on CI and read the bulletins and then starts judging based on that.

Some people saying any bowlers could get the wickets but they didn't see what was happening at the time. No bowlers couldn't make the breakthrough. Shakib has bowled all the bowlers but still it wasn't working. Samething happend in the first innings as well.

Ki ar bolbo bhai.. shob dosh Boycott er mom er..
